There’s a decent site for streaming the Canadian Grand Prix FP1 if anyone is interested – http://www.sportlemon.tv/c-10.html

I don’t think Sky will actually move F1 coverage over to Sky Sports, simply because they could not afford to run F1 coverage to a few thousand people, who have the sky sports pack! They may introduce a monthly subscription to only Sky F1, but I doubt it will go over to Sky Sports, because there are simply not enough people willing to pay that sort of extra cash…heck just look at the uproar for the extra £10 for HD, let alone £20 for the Sky Sports pack! I don’t think sky are as thick as Bernie!…However I have great respect for Bernie, however I don’t see where he is coming from!…When F1 totally turns into a wrestling sport, upon which is exclusivly Sky Box Office, because it is only entertainment, then fine, go Pay Per View, but currently it is still a much respected and wanted sport by many over the world! Second only to football!

I watch F1 on both Sky and the BBC and have to say I prefer the coverage on the BBC.I ‘m pleased I didn’t go out and buy Sky, I watch it at my daughters. The programs in between races is a load of s*** as well.

If Ecclestone dumps BBC coverage, I for one will not be watching F1 any more. I refuse to pay exorbitant sums to Sky for programmes (apart from FI) that I have no desire to watch. It’s time Bernie retired and stopped messing with us enthusiasts. There’s too much money going into people’s pockets and what’s left is going into pro football and wrecking the game.
Anyway, that’s what I think – rant over. (Till the next time)

Simon Lazenby (up until now by far the weakest point in the Sky F1 team) was better this weekend, he was more relaxed and he appears to be getting to know people around the paddock better.

There have been rumours flying around lately that Sky will take F1 off the HD package in 2013. Quoting directly from the Sky Help Forum “we are currently not aware of any changes for next year for the F1 HD package”, although this doesn’t strictly mean a decision to change hasn’t been made higher up?

Sky’s qualifying and race coverage will remain ad-free in 2013 according to a member of their staff on their forum:

I should hope so too given how much it costs me. Subscribing on Virgin isn’t cheap (though I do watch other sports as well), so it’s the very least they can do!

The one thing they did which was ridiculous was during FP1 at Austin.

The first time any cars had been out on the circuit, and what do we see?

Martin Brundle, blabbering about the hill and how slippery it was.

One thing out of a season isn’t bad but still.

I’m not really surprised that they are keeping it ad free for next year given that they know ads will put people off from buying into their coverage and the take-up this year was utterly abysmal.

On a somewhat related note, here was SKY’s final 2012 montage:

My question – what is the song in the background while George the Poet is talking?

We can confirm though that as per this season the actual races will be advert free.

Just pointing out they don’t confirm Qualifying will remain ad free. I’d be surprised if they did stick ads in there but using the term ‘actual races’ seems like a specific distinction to make if there is no meaning to it. Although I’m not sure how much these Sky forum staff really know.

If they had adverts in qualifying then they would probably be in the five minute gap between each session, so there wouldn’t need to be an interruption to the actual on track action.

I’m surprised the final montage wasn’t a ‘best of 2012 montages’ montage, after all they must of used hundreds of the things to fill time this season.

@robk23 Tell me about it. I was surprised when I found out that it ended up being the final montage. That wasn’t what I was expecting at all.

No idea with the song, BTW?

Not that this means a lot to Sky but their current F1 Competition includes a a year’s subscription to Sky World and the HD Pack. Georgie annouced the competition on the F1 Show as a way of watching all the action. Does this mean that the F1 Channel will remain free to HD customers next season? I for one hope so as I refuse to shell out for Sky Sports!
