Crofty’s shouting and talking over Brundle spoilt it for me. Martin is a well informed, articulate commentator who says it like it is and asks very good questions. It doesn’t need Crofty’s “Gladiator” style, “Quiz Show Host”artificial excitement. There was a similar guy on BBC two years ago, can’t remember his name, a Radio Chappie, and the Brundle/Coulthard partnership came out of his demise. These two, together, really are the industry standard. Bit like Rooney and Ronaldo….now separated…….

I am sorry, but the Sky F1 coverage is outstanding, I have always loved Ant and David on the BBC and now they work brilliantly in the commentary box. As for GT she is not amazing but she is sure attractive and if thats the way I wake up at 2:45AM then so be it!
The sky pad and red button is fantastic for data and added information, I actually love it! Yes the conversations are a bit sparse at the moment between the main hosts but its early days and there is not that much to talk about (that would not bore the average viewer) All in all its great. One other thing, have you noticed if you are on the red button and you switch to onboard during practice at the point of an advert, you can carry on watching?
As for those saying the coverage is soulless, its really not, its just giving you the facts in a way F1 is usually portrayed! Facts and numbers (£££+seconds) If you wan’t light hearted F1 go to the BBC, you don’t have to pay to watch F1 there (technically) But I am watching Sky F1 because I want facts and want numbers and want in depth analysis and not EJ’s shirt, there is a time and place for it all and it all depends on what you want! I do like the BBC coverage however I would rather have facts!

@tupperwareracer, you must be referring to Jonathan Legard. And you’re right to mention his radio background, because that’s exactly what makes David Croft so talkative as well. He’s used to having to describe everything that happens on track, which I think he is very good at, but not so used to the more conversational style required by TV where the viewer can see what is going on for themselves.

I would say that he will get better, but I have a feeling that Sky knew he was going to be like that when they signed him up, and they will encourage him to keep at it.

The presenting team is very wooden and unnatural like they are trying too hard but I think that will improve with time however Crofty and MB in the comm box were brilliant together, best F1 commentary in ages

I found the sky coverage a bit heavy on montages and self-promotion. The analysis that Davidson did on that big touch screen was good, and I was pleasantly surprised by crofty. Shocked with the comparisons to JL.

The only Sky option I can use is Sky Go (monthly ticket).

Sky’s ads are misleading – the race control features are not available if you subscribe via the Sky Go monthly ticket. So for £35 a month I’m getting a vastly delayed stream, no extra features, and if I want to watch other Sky channels (generally I don’t) I don’t get the range that’s available if I had a Sky+HD TV package (for less money).

Totally agree here. I can’t believe Sky aren’t offering the Race Control features to SkyGo monthly ticket customers. My circumstances don’t allow me to have SkyTV so the monthly ticket is the next best thing. Even though we have to pay £35 for the service, it seems minimal at best.

As for the coverage; Martin Brundle was the main reason I made the switch to sky but I agree with the general consensus re the rest of the team. I find Simon totally one dimensional and corporate. Damon will get better with time and offers a good insight. Georgie’s role is a waste of time really. I would have Ant in the main show along with Damon rather than fannying around on the sky pad. LOVE the Brundle/Croft commentary partnership and not really got an opinion on Natalie’s reporting. Ted a breath of fresh air as usual.

Lots of people saying that Sky’s “soulless” coverage is actually a good thing. I have to disagree.

Of course there has to be a balance between entertainment and information, but I think the BBC got that balance perfect last year. Jake is not the most knowledgeable person in the paddock, but he’s an excellent presenter nevertheless.

DC is extremely knowledgeable, arguably more so than Damon. DC has an excellent understanding of the technical side of F1- I think better than Damon.

Eddie Jordan offers an insight from the perspective of a team owner, something which Sky definitely cannot reproduce.

Just because the BBC’s coverage is a bit light-hearted, that doesn’t mean it’s not informative. I haven’t found Sky’s coverage any more informative than the BBC’s. Sky seems to think that by filling it’s coverage with flashy graphics and movies, that will make it entertaining. It doesn’t- it’s just boring.

Other than the pairing of Croft and Brundle (which I think is excellent), the whole Sky experience leaves me a bit… blanded out?

A lot of people are commenting on the fact the BBC coverage was just much more fun, which I completely agree with. The chap that they’ve paired with Damon is just so insanely boring and non-descript. He has no personality whatsoever. However, I just think of Brundle and Kravitz too highly to watch race coverage from the Beeb.

That said, I think I’ll be watching BBC pre-race coverage when it’s on and the Sky for the race itself. (Big thanks to my Bro for giving me his Sky Go login!)

For me it’s a bit like with Top Gear UK – there are three guys with personalities that just work together. Say what you want about everything else in this show, but those guys just click. It was the same with JH, DC and EJ. There’s no “click” between presenters in Sky coverage, which makes it quite boring as a show.

So far I think the sky coverage is lacking, but then this is their first race, it’s going to take some time for them to find their feet. It’s very stiff in my mind, they need to move about a bit! I thought Brundle was totally out of his element, he had no connection with the others and on a whole, I wasn’t too impressed with the presenters, I think Hill will be quite informative but again he needs to be a little less stiff. It was a bit flouncy at points too. BB1 was at such a high standard it’s going to take an awful lot to beat that. However, the F1 channel I am impressed with. Watched a couple of shows in the week and I found them to be really good, not to much waffling but very informative. I don’t like that you have to pay for the Sky coverage, but equally I am not prepared to only see half the races this year. I do know that when the BBC shows full races I will be watching their coverage instead.
One last point, and I know it’s moaning but I was not happy to find when I upgraded to the SkyF1 I had to have all the blooming sky sports channels. I won’t watch them, and that’s a waste.

Oh, and I much prefer the new set up on the site, so much easier, thanks Keith!

Generally speaking I thought the coverage was ok with a few exceptions. Don’t see the point of Georgie Thompson, pleasant enough but totally superfluous, I thought her “big iPad” thing with Ant a bit cringeworthy. Ant deserves much better than that, it felt very akward and very staged. Sadly whilst a big fan of Crofty with his Radio 5 coverage I felt he must have thought he was still on the radio, at one point he was telling us a car was taking a left corner….we could see that, it’s television not radio! One reason why DC and Martin Brundle were so popular was that less was more. Crofty needs to throttle back 40%, be a lot less excitable and not try to dominate the airwaves especially when the majority of us want to hear frqom Martin. I know he was used to painting a picture for us on Radio 5 ( he was great at it) but that was radio this is tv. It was what annoyed many viewers when Jonathan L. came on board and to a slightly lessor extent James Allen. As a few have mentioned it’s early days so hopefully things will settle down and I hope Crofty will become a valuable member of the team. If not then I’m sure Rupert has DC’s home number.

F1 has always been free to watch for everyone, there should be no exeption

I wonder how the BBC during their live races, are going to do the famous ‘Brundle grid-walk.’ It might have to be the not-so-famous EJ startline-interrogation ;)

And regarding waking up times, my kind brother is going to pick me up from home at 4:20 so we can watch it at his flat.

It was average. Exciting sure but that was the racing not the sky coverage. I think that it may get better and more natural but that lady, The sky pad and 3d modelling of the car felt gimmicky and it all currently feels very corporate and forced.
