It was great collection of clips at least.

@matt90 Agreed. The combination of that song, that footage and the stylish presentation should work, but the song just doesn’t fit.

And yes, I agree that the Vettel sequence at the end is awful and I hope it goes away. I have nothing against using real footage, and I actually found the BBC’s generic driver to be a bit boring. Overall, Sky’s is a decent effort, but the elements just don’t fit together as we would hope…

    Great footage, dreadful music.

I think The Chain works so well because of the lack of vocals and how they have used the solo which builds up and just keeps building up and ends on a fast pace which leads very well into the program (I also without a doubt ‘as I’m sure everyone else does’ Immediately associate this song with F1 and it’s just been here for so long and is such a great riff I didn’t think sky could top it and they haven’t) . I think the Sky one is … okay.. But it seems to build up to something and then die down and conclude and it seems as if it should be an outro sequence as well as seeming to be more of a montage style thing someone would make for YouTube. I also have to say I don’t like it how one driver is picked out and I think it should be more like the BBC with the anonymous driver.

It’s alright. They were already on the backfoot not going with Fleetwood Mac.

The song is rather full but at least it matches the tempo of the video, in my opinion at least. That song with BBC style CGI footage wouldn’t have worked at all.

The nicest thing I think I can say, on reflection, is that it is not an Opening song. Its actually the opposite, and is a better song to close the program with, or one of those end-of-season montages. I wonder if Sky expected this reaction as what ive read from people on other sites isnt really positive.

    Where’s the energy and excitement!!!??

No amount of nostalgia can cover the dreary music!

It’s a song that worked well as a closing song to an epic season. The intro should be something with more power. This works a whole lot better.

    Oh I agree @TommyB !!!

And I thought that ESPN’s intro was bad which I have to use the DVR to fast-forward through it.

The video is so old style, nothing we haven’t seen before and the music has no energy, it just doesn’t hit you. The music in TommyB’s version is much better.

@tommyb89, that is so much better. It’s like the video has been timed to fit the music – was that editing done by the creator, or just happy coincidence? See 00:12, for example :)

I thought I would choose a track to go with it and I thought this worked well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCqEkWY8ekQ&feature=related

Here is the sky opening sequence

Open both tabs. pause them both at 00:00 and then play the song open the other tab and play the video.

Personally I quite like the Sky intro. This year is going to be epic with Crofty and Brundle commentating, and with the dedicated channel. Shame it costs so much.
