To help disambiguate confidence vs arrogance:
(for those who know a bit about football)

Mourinho, that is a confident man (not arrogant)
Hamilton, that is an arrogant man, sorry, arrogant child (not confident)

Arrogant: Having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities (repeatadly comparing himself to Ayrton Senna)

Confident: 1. Feeling or showing confidence in oneself; self-assured.
    2. Feeling or showing certainty about something.
(mourinho stating for sure he’s gonna be champion for Chelsea before mid-season or for FC Porto pre-season)

But one doesn’t have to go to football to see the diference: Alonso, after a dismal race in silverstone showed supreme confidence (not arrogance) stating We will be champions (they weren’t but they were damn close, just look at the predictions before Abu D.)

Not to bring Monaco back again, but don’t you think that after the day he’d had you’d be slightly miffed at everything, you’ve just finished the race all hyped up and you get interviewed with leading questions……. Yes he probably did say some things that he shouldn’t have said but wouldn’t you, he’s only human after all! Oh and confidence is arrogance, to show confidence you have to be arrogant, to not show confidence with arrogance does not stand you high in rank, you have to have both to succeed in my opinion, OK with a fine balance on where you take it, otherwise you may as well sit on the side line and not bother. Am I being arrogant expressing my opinion, yes, probably, but I’m confident that it will get a reaction! But if you read your post, so are you! So we are all guilty of arrogance, it’s and everyday feature in life unfortunately, and ‘us’ or ‘anyone’ having/expressing an opinion, especially with any type of discusion forum could often be taken as arrogance, and yes again I’m confident you will disagree. (I am definately confident that I’ve been arrogant enough) :)

He just gets all excited and overly expressive on the camera. He should tone that down a bit. We all knew his day was bad, but making racist jokes and calling other drivers stupid just doesn’t cut it.

I think if he calms down a bit (which he has since he came in f1, but a little more will do) and doesnt express himself so much on-camera (but rather put up posters of all f1 drivers and stewards he doesnt like and take a gun at shoot at the posters when back home) i think he’d be the perfect package.

He is The only other guy after Alonso i think that i’ve seen who can hold the car by it’s neck and throw it round the track no matter how bad it is. and that’s awesome!

I’ve the distinctive feeling that he doesn’t even get that the funny part in Ali G saying that is in the fact he’s not black

  • Profile picture of Asanator Asanator said 1 year, 11 months ago:

    could that be ironic?

  • Profile picture of LL Jehto LL Jehto said 1 year, 11 months ago:

yeah, I guess that’s the point. I don’t find it particularly funny, but the intention is irony
