What’s this? I’ve found a picture of something that I’d never heard of before. Apparently I’ve missed something and Piquet tested for McLaren in 1990… Who knows the story behind this? Or was it no big deal?

Piquet was also suggested to join Prost for McLaren in 1988, but Prost himself wanted Senna to join. Oops! Ron was turned off him anyway when all Piquet seemed to care about was his salary and not McLaren’s future.

My guess is the 1990 test wasn’t a big deal, Piquet was getting on by then and was looked over in favour of Berger.

Yeah, it’s photoshopped. The JPEG compression on the car is much worse than on the helmet, coupled with more saturated and warmer colour on the helmet compared to the car.
Also note that the car is moving, and Piquet has his visor up.
