As was announced earlier today, Thailand will host a night race in 2014. But the circuit lay-out is yet to be determined. For those of you who get carried away rather quickly (like me), will want to design the lay-out themselves. So if you do, go to Google Pedometer and create your own vision of the 2014 Thailand GP!
Here’s my first attempt: it’s a Bangkok street circuit (4.81 km, 63 laps), with 12 corners: 2 high speed straights, 3 chicanes (5, 7 and 8), 3 potential overtaking corners (1, 3 and 9).
The circuit is far from perfect: at locations a and b, the bridges feature elevation change, so we could end up seeing cars take to the sky if the bridges don’t get changed (that’s a bit dangerous I guess..). Do you have a better idea?

Nothing’s been confirmed yet. In fact, the Russian GP might be pushed back to 2015 if the IOC think it’s going to interrupt the Winter Olympics…
I got bored so had a go. Don’t know if this would work, but it has fast bits.
Had another go. Went for the widest roads in the area. Thought it would work better.
Also, the laps for the first one would be a 53 lap race (5.8192km) And the second would be a 50 lap race (6.1652km)
It’s quite difficult to get a street circuit that looks good, I just get loads of 90 degree corners…
So far I have:
No idea where they would have to put pits and grandstands though…
I had to chuckle while I was drawing that one, especially since it’s in Bang-cock :D Would really be an awesome track though.
I had a quick attempt; http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5683605
Seems a little too long, but I tried to include as few 90 degree turns as possible with a street circuit. Anti-clockwise btw.
How awesome would this be?
5.369 km, 56 laps (though I’m sure it will be time limited). Hey, 48 corners is still less than the Nordschleife!
The great F1 high speed night race… That straight is 4.4 km long!
Just for the record: 13.808 km, 22 laps, the race will be over in an hour I guess.
It is hard to avoid many 90 degree corners but this is the best I came up with:
5.929 Km (52 Laps), Clockwise Direction, Good overtaking spots at Turn 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13.
This is my proposal, the same as the one I posted last night:
It’s very difficult to make a good circuit, because everything is so cramped. What’s more, this is in a residential area, so it’s going to cut hundreds of people of from the outside world. But Sanamluang Park is one of the few places I can find in the city that could actually support the pit lane.
The only other alternative I have is this, again with the pits in Sanamluang Park:
It should cut off less people – in fact, it might cut off no people – but it’s probably in violation of FIA regulations that actively discourage (if not outright forbid) circuits from using two sides of a dual carriageway as a circuit.
Doesn’t seem up to your usual standards @prisoner-monkeys. None of those layouts have 3 flyovers and a 14km length.
