    Kyalami: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5718017

Economics and politics aside, Kyalami should return to the calendar! The rehash of the early 90s is actually not that bad, but it was a far cry from the powertrack it used to be and there was nowhere to overtake. Two things I tried to fix.

    Silverstone, Take 2: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5717870

Omitting Club and Abbey is maybe slightly blasphemous, but I think this layout would be really sweet. Fast and simple, like the original. I also wanted to have a long straight that didn’t lead into a hairpin for a change.

@necrodethmortem The problem is the current pit building could not contain all teams and cars. There are too few garages, as well as virtually no place for the FIA and FOM rooms. That’d be more of a problem to me than the VIPs and Paddock Club, which used to be dumped at the paddock, near the Tarzanbocht anyway.

One of the things I liked in the original Gran Turismo games was the ability to run alternate layouts at the same location, and how reverse tracks could alter the feel of a track as well. Since Bahrain seems to be the ideal candidate to have a severe turnaround as far as layout is concerned, I had a go.

Using the inroad of turn one creates a Hockenheim kind of T1, followed by a part of the ‘Endurance lay out’, rejoining the track going the ‘wrong way’ into the back straight, a hairpin and another straight, for that Avus-ring feel. Different final turn, and I think this’d be much more of a high-speed, high-wear track.

A version with some more, longer sweeps.

Also, please excuse my over-Tilke-fying of the Bahrain track.. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5717493

@npf1 It may seem a bit of a silly suggestion, but why not split the pit building in two parts? The extra pit boxes can be built before Hugenholtz. I’ll look up whether the regs mention anything about pit buildings… tomorrow. If that can’t be done, I would offset all corners between Tarzan and Scheivlak further away from the beach, like you did, but it would be a deep shame to change something from the original layout.

That would definitely be something else

Here’s my go at making the Budhh track a little more curved/flowing. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5719431

On a slightly separate note, does anyone think the Buddh International Circuit looks like a glorified Kyalami?

@brickles – I’m pretty sure that if you could find the article Keith ran when the layout was first revealed, the first comment will be about the similarities to Kyalami.

    Here’s a cleaned-up version of my Kyalami idea: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5719954

4.5 km and only 10 turns, a breath of fresh air.

    Another version of Kyalami:

I know it hasn’t even opened yet, but since day 1 I’ve thought COTD could have been improved:

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5722465

Just tried to open it all out, and get rid of that ridiculous Mickey Mouse section in the middle, that I guarantee will spoil the flow of the circuit.

Thought I’d have a crack at Imola too. I tried to recapture the flowing nature of the original. There’s obviosuly not enough runoff to restore the original Tamburello, and personally I don’t mind the chicane. Plus, I felt doing any major work at that end of the circuit would alter it’s character too drastically.

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5722486

However, down at Villeneuve, there’s more than enough runoff, so I felt reprofiling it back to a fast right hand kink was a good idea, as the chicane down there was always massively tedious. Oh, and I removed Variante Alta, just to keep the whole think fast and flowing.

    Korea:
I don’t think the bit after the long straights that is a bit like Turkey’s final corners works as well as it did at Instanbul Park, I’d get rid of the Korean ones and have one big, looping corner. I’d also make turn 10 faster as I feel it ruins the flow of what is a nice section of corners.

    Okayama (TI Aida):
Not really a de-tilke-fication, but I’ve always loved the idea of a second race in Japan. When done in conjunction with a facility upgrade, it’d not only make the place F1 worthy, but IMO one of the most exciting circuits on the calendar.

    http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5722819

    Buenos Aires:
Similar sort of thing really, would make a really exciting circuit, and with facility and runoff upgrades, would be a brilliant venue for any series.

    Bahrain:

8 corners, 2.1 miles. It’d be easy as hell to acheive, and it’d be bloody brilliant.

Maybe the best known section of the old Fuji circuit was the fast and long final corner (if we exclude the banked corner). And what Tilke did wrong with the reconstruction was that he replaced that fast corner with many slow corners. Here’s how I’d change Fuji:

    http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/7094/47935274.jpg

The old fast final corner was great, and, at least in sims, even more awesome when you were going wheel-to-wheel. This version brings a fast turn after that mid-circuit hairpin. And that flat-out section is now longer than the turning straight to that strange chicane, thus possibly making overtaking easier. I left two hairpins at the end of the lap, on the other hand, that turning flat-out section could continue a bit farther so that it’s connected to the pit straight with a hairpin.

And the distance of that Fuji de-Tilkefication is 4,5 km.
