Right, first things first, this is a theoretical game: you don’t have to put you money where your mouth is. I got the idea for this as bit of fun because Autosport did it for a while, and since Keith is now running a betting column I thought it would be rather entertaining. Winner is the person with most cash at the end of the season!

    The rules:

    1) you start with £100.
    2) We’re using William Hill odds: http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/en-gb/betting/y/11/Motor-Racing.html
    3) As in real life, you can make bets as they become available, up until the start of qualifying. Post the odds you bet under at the time.

    So, from the available bets:

Jenson Button to win the title: £10 at 7/1 (£80 return inc stake.)
Button to beat Hamilton over the season: £5 at 4/9 (£14.44 return)
Hamilton to win a race: £10 at 8/11 (£17.27 return)

    £75 budget remaining.

Kimi Räikkönen to win the title: £100 at 10/1 (£1100 return)

    £0 budget remaining

I don’t actually think he’ll win the title (I dream…), but the odds were too good to pass up :)

Well, I will have a go, but I have never bet before!

Hamilton to win a race? £5 NO (EVENS) Returns £10
Valterri Bottas to beat Maldonado £20 (17/5) Returns £88
Alonso to win the championship £15 (11/4) Returns £56.25
Lewis Hamilton to beat Perez £10 (8/11) Returns £17.27

That’s £50 bet, but I don’t know whether my returns are correct, so can someone help me with them? If I am right, I would gain £171.52 :)

    Sounds like a fun game : )
I haven’t used fractional odds before, so please highlight any mistakes..

Kimi Raikönen wins the championship £10 (10/1) Returns £110
    Perez beats Button £5 (2/1) Returns £15

    Budget left: £85
Yep, I am a bit cheap, but I will rather spend the money betting for races rather the final outcome, otherwise I am probably going to run out of money to spend way too soon : )

What are the odds that somebody will enter, not place any bets then win because they still have their £100 and we all lost money? :P

Alonso to win championship: £40 at 11/4 (returning £150)
    Rest kept back for races.

Bendanarama, your “Button to beat Hamilton over the season: £5 at 4/9 (£14.44 return)” would yield a return of £7.22.

On the William Hill site (link in top post) click on your wager of choice and a green bet slip appears on the right of the screen, enter cash sum in appropriate box and estimated returns will be given.
