The long-term repercussion of Jenson vs Lewis incident (24 posts)

This won’t do anything to their relationship. Lewis wouldn’t have stuck around if he was peeved off, he wouldn’t have took his helmet off etc..

It was noone fault, Lewis thought Jenson could see, Jenson thought Lewis was directly behind and took the racing line.

We shouldn’t try to stir anything, we’ve got the mainstream media to do that for us.

It was just a racing incident. Nether is trully at fault. Their relationship is not deteriorating; this incident is not going to make Button and Hamilton have a Senna/Prost-esque rivalry; if anyone hopes that is going to happen then they are sorely mistaken.

tl;dr: People should stop looking into this more than they should be.

Its hard to blame anyone in this incident. I guess it all depends on Jenson’s visibility, so we will never be able to blame one driver for this incident. They seem pretty mature about the whole situation, definitely more mature than the RB pair. I think another incident like this might spark off a bit of turbulence in their relationship, but I think it seems OK for now. I do hope they have an another incident like this though, it would add some great drama to the sport, and would give us a little insight into both their dark sides. (Evil laugh reverberates in the background) ;)

The incident in itself won’t change much, but it may act as a turning point depending on how they fare moving forward. Jenson is now ahead of Lewis in the standings, with momentum on his side as well (a 3rd and a 1st, compared to a 7th(?) and a DNF for Lewis). Any more good results like this and Lewis will sulk even more. Similar to Alonso in 2007, the anger won’t be directed so much at Jenson as it would be at the team (poor calls on strategy, good but not great car, etc.)

think bunson looked in his mirrors before hamilton pulled out into the racing line, anyway why did hamilton not move the other way, think hamilton should remember the old adage,
“to finish first, first you have to finish”

how can this be the pinacle of motor sport, when your teammate is chasing you and your not looking @ him? button was on the straight so he had opportunity to look and spot where lewis was, and lewis was right under him exiting the last chicane. also, why wasnt button’s race engineer informing him that lewis was close and could attempt a passing maneouve. its sad that lewis is behaving overly aggressive since lately.

Except that the spray made it impossible to see, even if Hamilton was not in Button’s blind spot. The rear view mirrors are practically useless. And the stewards ruled that Button wasn’t at fault, because at the time of the incident, he did not change his racing line from the previous lap, and the racing line was almost identical to the taken by the previous driver, Michael Schumacher.

The only reason why people are blaming Button for the incident is to exonerate Hamilton in the light of another scrappy weekend.

Or you know, they might just genuinely think that. I find that most people don’t actually have an agenda, see all the Hamilton fan comments criticising him over the past two weekends. In fact the post you just quoted criticised Hamilton, yet you want to use it as an example of people being biased in favour of him?

It is plainly obvious from the video footage that Jenson looked in his mirrors after getting a bad drive of the final corner, unfortunately for Lewis he was directly behind Jenson for the entire time that Jenson was looking in them and jinked out to go the wrong way past at the same time Jenson stopped looking in that mirror and started moving over following the racing line.

It was at most a 50/50 racing incident, perhaps Lewis shouldn’t have put his car into a gap that was obviously going to close but that seems to be the way of things at the moment.

I don’t think that there will be any long-term repercussions from the incident, they both seem to have sorted it out sensibly and it was good to see Lewis enjoying Jenson’s win.

With regards Lewis and the Stewards, there are only so many warnings about your driving that the stewards will give before they start issuing penalties and if you are a repeat offender you are more likely to be punished in a 50/50 incident than someone who rarely visits them.
