Bourdais is a bit hard to pin down, truth be told. Yes, he dominated Champ Car, but it was towards the end of the life of the series when it was frankly not that competitive (and this coming from someone who loathed the IRL during the CART/IRL wars). So even though it takes some kind of talent within him to do that, it doesn’t mean he’s Schumacher-esque per-say. Add to that that he’s currently floundering around the back of the field most often in Indy Car now and his performance in F1 and he doesn’t look like as bright of a star. Yet, he does have a ride with a very successful team in the Le Mans series and seems to be doing pretty well there. So perhaps it’s more down to the current style of open wheel racing and the competition within it? He seems to be talented, just not at everything he picks up.

Joey – thanks for clarifying that for me. I’m not a fan of the US-based racing categories and so I don’t know much in terms of development
