I think McLaren would want another top-line driver and Ferrari would want another fast doormat… Here’s how things could look next year if this happened. I’ve used the current 2011 constructors championship standings (mostly) to determine the numbers etc.

    Red Bull Racing-Renault
    1. Sebastian Vettel
    2. Mark Webber (really not sure Webber will hang around to get trounced again, but gave him the benefit of the doubt)
    3. Sebastien Buemi

    Vodafone McLaren-Mercedes
    4. Lewis Hamilton
    5. Jenson Button
    6. Nico Rosberg

    Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro
    7. Fernando Alonso
    8. Felipe Massa
    9. Timo Glock

    Lotus Renault GP
    10. Robert Kubica (provided he’s fit again, here’s hoping)
    11. Vitaly Petrov
    12. Bruno Senna

    Mercedes GP Petronas F1 Team
    14. Nico Hülkenberg
    15. Michael Schumacher (let’s see if his odd-number preference extends to numbers >13)
    16. Nick Heidfeld

    Sauber F1 Team-Ferrari
    17. Kamui Kobayashi
    18. Sergio Pérez
    19. Sam Bird

    Scuderia Toro Rosso-Ferrari
    20. Jaime Alguersuari
    21. Daniel Ricciardo
    22. Jules Bianchi

    Force India F1 Team-Mercedes
    23. Adrian Sutil
    24. Paul di Resta
    25. Giancarlo Fisichella

    Team Lotus-Renault
    26. Jarno Trulli
    27. Romain Grosjean
    28. Davide Valsecchi

    AT&T Williams-Cosworth
    29. Rubens Barrichello
    30. Heikki Kovalainen
    31. Pastor Maldonado

    Marussia Virgin Racing-Cosworth
    32. Jerome D’Ambrosio
    33. Karun Chandhok
    34. Giedo van der Garde

    Hispania Racing F1 Team-Cosworth – bust…

@Casanova – I have serious doubts Glock will ever go to a top team – let alone Ferrari…
I think Bianchi would probably go to Sauber as Sauber is Ferrari’s testing ground and Toro Rosso is Red Bull’s testing ground.

I like the idea of 3, 2 or 1 car teams. The more established teams could run 3 cars, the midfield teams (and Team Lotus) run with 2 cars and HRT and Virgin with 1 car. That’d also open the possibility of wildcard drivers to enter and allow a more equal grid

    Red Bull-Renault

    30.Kamui Kobayashi

    McLaren-Mercedes

    Ferrari

    5. Fernando Alonso
    6. Felipe Massa
    32.Nico Rosberg

    Mercedes

    7. Michael Schumacher
    8. Paul di Resta
    33.Nick Heidfeld

    Renault

    9. Robert Kubica
    10.Vitaly Petrov
    34.Timo Glock

    Williams-Cosworth

    11.Rubens Barrichello
