@volga Well, it is a poll on drivers’ performance in the 21st century. I’d say it’s harsh but fair on Mika, in the same way that if Schumacher’s rating would go down a bit if we were exclusively looking at driver performance in the 20th century. In any case, people can put Mika higher in their personal rankings if they wish. :)

Volga – I didn’t name Hakkanin because I’ve never seen him race, I wasn’t watching F1 at the beginning of the century. Unfair, yes, but I didn’t want to rank him on solely on reputation, or watch all the races I missed from 2000 to 2006ish.

Oh, and morning, Journeyer! (she says, while making dinner) Nice work with the running tallies and analysis.

Honorable mentions for Kovalainen and Glock, they almost made the list!

@joey-zyla Interesting that you mention Kovalainen and Glock, especially after the latter’s run at McLaren. I don’t want to argue here, but I’d just like to know why you have been more impressed with those guys than, say, Kubica (also interested to hear about why Barrichello is so high up). Once again, not arguing, just interested.

@brazil2007 I assume you mean the former (Kovalainen) rather than the latter (Glock). I didn’t seriously include them for consideration in my list.

But I can answer your second question and give my two cents. I put Rubens above Kubica (who wasn’t in my Top 10) for one good reason: wins. Kubica was a classic “what-if”, but I didn’t want to judge based on that. I wanted to judge on what they actually achieved. And it shows Rubens won a whole bunch of races with Ferrari and Brawn, while Kubica won only the one in 2008.

@Journeyer . Dont mean to defy your logic.. but maybe you should also take the opportunity available to drivers when making these considerations. FOr example, Rubens has had a championship winning car in atleast 6 seasons… but has failed to capitalise on even one.

I would rate Kubica higher because he finished 3rd in 2008 in a car that shouldn’t have been up there… while Rubens finished 3rd in 2009 in a car that should have been 1st.

@brazil2007 – Barrichello was only outperformed by one of the best drivers in history. It’s not just his results, but the fact he stayed capable of racing at an impressive pace for so many years, is just incredible. Glock and Kovalainen had a lot of good performances, especially Glock. Kubica’s good as well, but remember, these are just honorable mentions…
