Okay, so my last few posts have been a bit deeper than the usual discussion around here, but after one of my friends mistooke Sigmund Freud for Siegfried & Roy, I decided it was time for a fun one again.
We all know that F1.com cuts the highlights of recent races to popular music (though sadly, the uni network blocks me from viewing them), and it’s thanks to Formula 1 that my playlist now features the likes of Kasabian and The Automatic. Hell, they even managed to make N*E*R*D sound good. Sadly, however, the last few race edits have been a little sub-par in their musical choice, so I figure it’s time to help them along a bit.
Here’s my suggestion: HWY 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZbTrje0Olg) by Them Crooked Vultures. I saw these guys in Sydney back in January, and let me tell you, it was utterly insane. Forget wildly-overproduced shows like the ones U2 put on; these guys just blow everything away. They should, since it’s Josh Homme, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones (yes, that John Paul Jones). Alternatively, I’d suggest one of their other songs, Gunman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmEj_Lq6sWo) or maybe Dead End Friends (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvbbonV13BY) for something a little bit more mainstream. And for Bahrain, I’d suggest Dream Theater’s cover of Iron Maiden’s To Tame A Land (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceW77g7OZLo). It might be a song about Frank Herbert’s Dune and thus loaded with references to it, but Dune is concerned with the conquering of a desert planet. And if ever they want to continue using Kasabian, Club Foot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96eZYS7sm88&ob=av2n) is where it’s at.
So, not only do you get to discuss Formula 1, but you get to talk about your favourite music, too.
