Welcome Rick! I’ve never thought of a reverse points system before, it would probably make things a bit fairer at the rear end of the grid. Of course you could do the same by giving all positions a point, but I like the thought of the leaders being on low numbers.

Rick, your not the only one who does spreadsheets on f1 ;) Interestingly I have done one using a different system and it showed virgin well ahead of HTR. What I did was ignore all the drivers other than the three new teams so their was affectively a 6 car grid, then I awarded points using the 9,6,4,3,2,1 method. Lotus were well ahead of virgin who were well ahead of HTR. I was never thought of using this as a points system, only to try and judge how well the new teams had done. The problem with the current system for the back markers is it is bacicaly a medals system where 1 13th is considered better than the about 5 14th places virgin had.

I think Klon got it spot on with this:

Well I was thinking a while back about how you compare drivers across different points system and thought the idea of using the average finishing position would equalise things a bit, reverse points sort of does the same thing. The best bit is about dropping points which doesn’t seem to have the same pitfalls as the “best 11 count” rule did (see the 1988 season!)
