Speed King / Highway Star by Deep Purple. Both fast tempo, its got Ian Gillan belting out the lyrics and its Rock.

Failing that, Joe Satriani has done plenty of fast-paced guitar pieces that could be used.

From 3:24 on for about a minute, when it could be faded out.

@icthyes I’m glad someone else thought Kasabian was a poor choice. They’re dreadfully bland and in no way summed up the 2011 season for me.

There’s nothing that stands out for me but i’m thinking something with a more rock orientated sound to it.

How about ‘All Along The Watchtower’, as by Mr Jimi Hendrix, or something by Queen, there are so many great songs by them that would be suitable. Or for something a bit different, Pendulum songs always seem to go well with the montages.

How about something a bit more epic?

  • Profile picture of matt90 matt90 said 1 year, 3 months ago:

@skett were you think of any part of that in particular or just the beginning? Cos I think the start it a bit much for a 30 second – minute long intro every week.

I’d like see them use “Fuel” by Metallica, though I know it won’t happen.

Used to like the Sony ads during the ITV days just for the song, Can I Play With Madness by Iron Maiden. I vote for that song!

    Just had the best idea. U2′s “Until the End of the World”;

A fitting way to make a famous riff even more famous.

I always thought “The Distance” by Cake would be perfect for F1 coverage.

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line,
Engines pumping and thumping in time.
The green light flashes, the flags go up.
Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup.
They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank,
Fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns.
Their prowess is potent and secretly stearn.
As they speed through the finish, the flags go down.
The fans get up and they get out of town.
The arena is empty except for one man,
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he’s driving and striving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

    He’s going the distance.
    He’s going for speed.
    She’s all alone
    In her time of need.
Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse,
    He’s going the distance.

No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine,
He’s haunted by something he cannot define.
Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse,
Assail him, impale him with monster-truck force.
In his mind, he’s still driving, still making the grade.
She’s hoping in time that her memories will fade.
Cause he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he’s striving and driving and hugging the turns.
And thinking of someone for whom he still burns.

    Cause he’s going the distance.
    He’s going for speed.
    She’s all alone
    In her time of need.
Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
He’s racing and pacing and plotting the course,
He’s fighting and biting and riding on his horse.
    He’s going the distance.
    He’s going for speed.
    He’s going the distance.

Just because it’s about motorsport (especially when it can be interpreted to be about drug addiction), that doesn’t mean it’s a good song for any sort of motorsport.
