What year do you think had the best looking F1 cars in the 2009-2014 era so far? (24 posts)

@Slr: How are the 2009 cars closest to 2008?

@Pamphlet: Really? I think the cars really grew into their look, the lenghtened wheelbase is the best thing that has happened to this generation of cars!

@roald I meant as in the closest year to 2008, it’s stupid logic for answering the question, but oh well. I would still pick 2009 because the 2010 and 2012 cars look dreadful and I prefer the 2009 cars to the 2011 cars.

I believe the 2011 cars are the most beautiful in the history of F1. Clean bodywork, complex wings and heaps of variety. The RB7 is THE most beautiful Formula 1 car ever for me, the amazingly tight rear is stunning to look at, the bound to be classic livery, the barrel engine cover, the bullish nose.
The W02 and R31 were both stunners. The F150 is one of the prettiest Ferrari’s. C30 was only let down by the livery. There were very few cars I didn’t like in 2011.

2010 was also very good looking but became uglier over the course of the season due to the f-duct/Shark fins. 2009 cars were too simple and looked unrefined and the stepped noses ruin most of the current 2012 cars (Though the Force India is the best looking they’ve produced).

I would say 2009 – and there’s something about the 2010 cars I really liked as well – shark fins don’t really bother me all that much, and I quite like how the noses were sculpted.

In retrospect, I find it difficult to find anything within the year you mention that beats the F10.

@Roald I agree with @Pamphlet too! The 2010 cars looked like someone had stretched them when I first saw them, and I really, really hated them for a while! I still think the longer wheel-base looks clumsy, thought I’ve grown used to the look. Something about a short wheel-base looks nifty, agile, quick and refined. The longer cars are ugly! :-P

Also, possibly controversial opinion, but I still don’t like the F10. Maybe it’s the fact that every time I see a picture I’m reminded of the awful sound it made (seriously, worst sounding V8 ever, especially from onboard), but otherwise, it seems out of proportion or something. The F150 thingo whatever-it’s-called was infinitely more pretty than the F10 in my opinion.

Interesting thread though. I think my personal favourites are the R30, F150 thingo whatever-it’s-called, C30 and possibly the one and only Brawn. The worst have been last year’s Force India and McLaren creations… And probably most of the 2012 cars! :-D

I can’t understand how anyone can like the 2009 cars. They looked like snow plows. Fugly.

In no particular order: McLaren MP4-25 and/or 27, Lotus E20, Ferrari 150 Italia, Force India VJM05, Team Lotus T128.

So I guess that makes it 2011, 2012 and 2010. All of the cars in 09 looked horrid, except maybe the Williams FW31.

I must be the only person who quite disliked the 150 italia. I didn’t like the shape of the nose, but hated the huge blocky front wing supports. I originally didn’t like the F10, due to the nose pointing out too far, but on reflection I find it very pretty.
