I picked 2009 as my “official” start date since that was when some friends invited me to start watching F1 races with them (they knew I was a racing fan who was into Indy Cars). I knew a bit about it from the mid-late 90′s from some books, but had never watched it on TV. I saw the Australian Grand Prix and that was it. Haven’t missed a race since (though I see them on a delay 90% of the time) and I rarely miss qualifying as well now.

1998 French GP. Ferrari one-two, Schumacher victory. What an intro to F1, I’ve been a diehard fan of his ever since. Went to the Australian GP at home earlier that year but I had no interest then, something just clicked and since mid-98 I’ve missed maybe half a dozen races for reasons out of my control.

Lost a bit of interest when Schumacher retired in 06, since his comeback I’m more engrossed in F1 than I ever was, probably due to the fact that I was still a kid when he was winning championships with Ferrari.

I’ll never forget getting up in the middle of the night, those were the days…

I followed F1 since about 2001, but F1 wasn’t shown live in Australia then. In those days I could watch the Australian, Malaysian and Japanese GP and I would check the other results every Monday morning and read every race report in various magazines.

2009 was when I started living and breathing F1. That’s when it started to be shown live in Australia and also when Mark Webber began winning races. Since then I haven’t missed a race and every spare minute on the internet will be spent on an F1 website.

Only properly last year. I watched the last race of 2010 that was pretty good and I was going to watch again but just never got round to it for the first 5 races. The first race I watched was Monaco and boy was it a great way to get pulled back into the excitement of F1 with Jenson catching Alonso and Vettels tires being completely destroyed. I have not as of yet missed a race and I intend on keeping it that way as long as there are races to watch.
