Which driver pairings would you want to see as team mates? (50 posts)

@mads Actually; what I’d love love love love LOVE to see; is either one of 2 championship outcomes – either 2/3 people go into the last race equal points; and leader of the points board; and so the championship will be decided by basically the order they finish the last race; or 3 people; each having one point less than the one above him (i.e. 3 people, spanning 3 points). Then they qualify in reverse order; in such a way that if they finished there; the positions will reverse. That would be a hell of a finish to a season. My heart might explode though.

    @katederby Vettel-Vergne? That’s an interesting one. Alonso-Webber too. If I may ask… why?

Vergne is a very forceful driver and of course from the same Red Bull junior programme as Vettel, so I’d like to see him against RBR’s #1

We’ve seen some fantastic battles between Alonso and Webber especially this year, clearly a lot of respect between them, so in the same car would be great

RBR: Vettel – Ricciardo or Vettel – Schumacher
Ricciardo seems like the kind of guy who wouldn’t mind supporting Vettel for a while, and once Vettel makes his inevitable switch to Ferrari he could easily become their #1 driver.
Second combination is highly unlikely, both because MSC will likely retire for good soon and because they would both want to be the #1 driver, but that’s slightly offset by VET&MSC’s very strong relationship. And hey, it’d be awesome.

Ferrari: Alonso – Kubica or Alonso – Perez
First pairing is an obvious one – everyone wants to see Robert back (well…except me, since I don’t really like him and his pro-Alonso shenanigans, despite me being an Alonso fan), including FA himself. The new RAI-MAS combo?
Second pairing is a VET-RIC-esque combo in that Perez is quite talented and probably wouldn’t mind supporting Alonso for a while.

    Sauber: Massa – Räikkönen
While it’s probably never going to happen (mainly because of Kimi), it’d be great to see the two of them together again, especially at the team that formed and shaped them.

    ???: Hamilton – Kovalainen
Yes, we all know what happened in 2008 and 2009, but they’re very good friends and Lewis could easily sprint back to the top with someone like Heikki backing him.

I would love to see Lewis vs Fernando again, it was so interesting and exciting watching though’s two going at each other again, Massa and Webber I would love to see and then win every race alternatively just to prove they have the talent. Kobayashi and the divine wind.

    Barrichello – M. Schumacher 2.0

@necrodethmortem after the recent trial that could be explosive.
@Klon – do you mean with the old bitterness and baggage of 2000-2005 and Hungary 2010; or just in terms of capability?

    Mercedes
    Rosberg and Kubica:
I know it probably will not happen especially after Kubica’s crash but it was definitely a rivalry I wanted to see and would keep both these guys at their peak potential.

    McLaren
    Kovalainen and Button:
I just feel like they have a calm racing style and want to see who would be on top or what margin there is between the two.

@dpod And if Heikki can beat Button; then that completes the rock-paper-scissors cycle of Lewis, Jenson and Heikki :P

I’m sure @girts has faith in Heikki’s ability to beat Jenson ;)

@raymondu999 Yes we can! Talking about the team, I’d prefer Mercedes over McLaren though :)

I’d also love to watch something like Massa vs Maldonado in the same team, that should rank among the most explosive ‘love stories’ ever.

But if I was a team principal, I would most probably go for balance, that is, choose one guy who’s a bit hot-headed and one who’s calm, something like Lewis Hamilton and Paul di Resta.

Ah – but the question wasn’t who you would choose; it’s who you’d love to see as teammates – either to see a showdown, or to see how well they’d get along.

  • Profile picture of Klon Klon said 1 year, 3 months ago:

@raymondu999 – both really. They are both not the youngest drivers, but more than gifted. “Gift” (German for poison) is good word to describe the relationship that the two are having, so it would be one of the hottest battles on the grid. Not to mention proving or disproving my delusion assumption that the current age Barrichello would beat the current Schumacher in an intrateam fight.

    Fernando Alonso
    Robert Kubica

    Michael Schumacher
    Jenson Button

    Sebastian Vettel
    Lewis Hamilton

@DK Button Schumacher? That’s an interesting one. Any reasons?

  • Profile picture of DK DK said 1 year, 3 months ago:

    @raymondu999
Button – Schumacher – I think about both of them as big strategists and great drivers.
I also think they would respect each other and cooperate very well in a team.

I was a big Schumacher fan and now I like Button very much too. I would be a big supporter of their team. Nothing could beat Alonso and Kubica together at Ferrari for me though.
