Why do you follow your favourite team? (40 posts)

I have a least favourite team, as do many, and I favour some more than others, but I have no favourite. I like the sport as a whole, and tend to follow favourite drivers more than teams.

    ajokay

Pretty much the same for me, I definitely prefer some teams over others, but drivers are more important. I’m a bit of a fan of all the German drivers to varying degrees, but my favorites at the moment are probably Kobayashi and Kubica.

I’m a fan of multiple teams. There are teams I would really like to do well, and other teams I am indifferent about. I’m not fussed about Sauber as a team, I’m pretty neutral on them, same with Torro Rosso, although they’ve been adventurous with the design this year, so I’m a bit more behind them.

Not Fussed about Red Bull, Newey should have won in 2009 had the double diffuser loop hole not been there.

Any team and driver that shows pluck, innovativeness, and a good nature I find easy to like. I like Team Lotus, McLaren are easier to like these days with Whitmarsh at the Helm. Liking McLaren when Ron was like trying to like your childhood dentist.

Ferrari aren’t my favourites but I blow hot and cold on them. I love the history and the older cars, but I’m not a fan of LDMs big mouth, and it tends to mean I colour much of what comes out of Maranello with my feelings about him. It’s not really an unbiased position.

Never liked Renault for some reason, this season is a bit different, they’ve been daring and look good in black, so I hope they do well.

I was looking forward to seeing Robert, but.. Bit broken hearted by the accident.

Anyways I could go on but you get the picture. I would love Heidfeld or Button to win this year. :)

I have followed many drivers over the years, as I have never been a big team supporter. I tend to follow those drivers whom I think demonstrate amazing driving skills. I loved Senna, followed Schumacher for a while, was always in two-minds about Kimi, and now follow Lewis. I am really pleased that Alonso is back on form, that Vettel is in a car that allows him to demonstrate his skill and hopefully Lewis and Jenson will have a car which allows them to use their own skill to challenge for wins. This is going to be an amazing season.

When I was about 10 I was walking around Atlanta, GA with my dad and we saw a car that was just unbelievable to me. After seeing that car, I was instantly transformed into a car junkie and wanted to learn everything I could. I also would not stop talking about this car I saw. It was a Ferrari BB512 (mind you it was new at the time).

My dad said to me, if you like that car so much, you should see their race cars. He took me to Road Atlanta for a vintage Ferrari show and we started watching F1 together and never looked back.

Since then, Ferrari has held a special place for me, after all, they (with a lot of help from my dad) got me into F1. After learning about Enzo Ferrari and how he built the team/company by himself with such passion and determination, I have always leaned more to the individual/privateer teams too – Lotus (old), McLaren, Williams, Sauber more than the big constructors like Mercedes, Renault, Honda or the corporate teams like RedBull, Virgin, etc….

I’m a McLaren fan. I was a big fan of DC and kept hoping that this would be his year! I also really liked Ron Dennis and thought he was unfairly picked on by FIA and the fans. Really disliked Schumacher (and Ferrari) and as McLaren were beating them – the deal was sealed.

@tommyb89, sorry for being so predictable in my contempt for toro rosso, funny thing is I used to like them alot, especially vettel/monza, however after they got shot of Bourdais, enough was enough!

My favourite team since lap 55 of the 1998 Spanish Grand Prix has been Jordan/Midland/Spyker/Force India/whatever-it’s-called-by-this-owner. I’m not 100% sure why it happened, except that my heart figured out I was a Jordan supporter long before my head did. I started noticing them properly when Damon Hill (my favourite driver of the time) went to them at the start of 1998. The reason I can pin down my support of the Silverstone squad so precisely was that Damon had long since retired from that race and I suddenly found myself saying “Come on Ralf!” despite having virtually no clue who he was…

I continued to support Jordan because of a combination of EJ’s charm and the playful atmosphere in the team combined with a steely seriousness. Often it left it as fortune’s child but you could tell how much it treasured the good times and it was always incredibly determined whatever its incarnation.

When Midland bought Jordan out, I carried on supporting the team because the core of the team that made it the team I loved was still there even if Eddie wasn’t. Once that hurdle was cleared, support has been relatively smooth sailing since.

McLaren because they are inspirational. I started watching when Hakkinen first joined McLaren and I thought he was a funny guy! But I simply love the livery and the way there was hope for the team, then when Coulthard joined that was me hooked! Then when they changed to the black and silver livery that was me even more hooked!
