@f1andy83 – .4s (less than that, in fact – it’s barely over .35s) really isn’t that big of a difference. Look at Perez’ Q2 and Q3 times and compare them to Kobayashi’s. The difference is bigger.

I’d say it was a good effort for someone that has been dropped to clear #2 status on a team like Ferrari. Smedley seems to agree.

Yes it wouldn’t be bad however Alonso didn’t use his kers for most of his lap. Had he been able to use kers he would be easily .7 secs faster than massa.

I thought he only had the KERS issue in Q3?

  • Profile picture of Deleted User said 1 year, 1 month ago:

Yes. Q3 is usually the fastest time they post. Alonso said his gap to the pole woud have been less.

“We had a KERS problem right in the final stages of the session, when Fernando set out for his last timed lap in Q3,” Fry said.

What is your point? Both had it in Q2. and .35 was what it was in Q2.

So Massa had another dire race today when his team mate won. It can only be a matter of time.

Indeed. The one lap pace was okay but his races thus far have been awful. Step up or step out Massa.

I actually hoped, for the first time in my life, that Ferrari dropped Massa, during today’s race. Seeing Perez where he was overjoyed me, but probably because he was in a Sauber. In a Ferrari, Checo would be yet another Ferrari driver to me, definitely a nice one I’d support, but nothing particularly special. I didn’t rate him as much as he deserved last year, but since last weekend’s race I’ve had to change my ideas.

Well the last underdog driver to actually be in P2, in the hunt for the victory and quicker than the leading driver (who in both cases is a Ferrari) after the Ferrari has made an easy pass; got a Ferrari drive immediately in the next race :P (Fisi in Spa 2009)

But I don’t think this will be the same case. Not this year at least.

I kind of wouldn’t be surprised if Perez in the second Ferrari soon, even if it was for China. But at the same time, I don’t think joining Ferrari so soon would help Perez as he would have to adapt to a difficult car (though Alonso doesn’t make the car look that difficult to drive).

I really think it would be a bad decision to replace Massa with Perez, at least for the moment. First of all Sauber seem to be pretty comfortable with where they are, and are probably moving forward if anything, while Ferrari, despite their win, are still facing massive problems with the new car which they really need two experienced drivers to help sort them out. Also, I keep getting the feeling it would end up like the Fisichella to Ferrari move in 2009 (i.e not very well).

Massa just has to go. He is not adding any points at all. My suggestion would be just get 3 drivers from a juniper formula and rotate them thought out the season just see who drives next year.

Deep down, I think we all want to see Perez in a contending car, but will Ferrari provide that? Alonso had no right to win that race, and for Perez, a move to Ferrari might be a step sideways rather than forwards, at least this season.

And anyway, with Massa they have a driver who knows the unique demands of Ferrari, and who can develop the car. Massa out? Not quite yet.
