Dang. That is one of the best posts I’ve read in sometime @Prisoner Monkeys
I sincerely hope some people from the teams troll on here and that someone with some clout inside the scuderia stumbles upon this.

Perez is clearly the best choice, perhaps as you have suggested the only. With many expecting them to pick him up, they would be crazy not too. Do that, and stop letting their tech guys go or get scalped by their rivals and they may finally produce a car Alonso can win with again. I know he has that long term contract, but he won’t put up with years of mediocrity and if they want to retain him, they need to up their game.

The pit crew being on top in Melbourne is a hopeful sign of change for the rest of the organization.

As far as Montezemolo, I think the day he makes the full time switch to Italian politics will come sooner rather than later. He has done great things for Ferrari in the past, but it’s time for someone new to take the reigns on the prancing horse.

Also, as the Ferrari legacy is a combination of their on track victories and their road cars, I must say that I think their new F12 looks awful.

Luca is the real problem. Once the team gets rid of him, they can stop being a political instrument and go back to being a racing team. Who knows? Maybe even I will start liking them then.

The general elections are coming up soon.

I don’t think so. Ferrari have money, a huge base of supporters and, unlike Toyota or Honda, they cannot afford to leave F1 either. Maybe they have been too busy with themselves and focused too much on trying to change F1 to make it suit their wishes (more testing, 3rd cars etc.) instead of just adapting to the reality. Maybe they haven’t been able to assemble the right team since Brawn, Todt and Schumacher left. Anyhow, they should be back sooner or later.

Ferrari’s dominance is not finished, it’s just not their turn to dominate at the moment. All great teams do well and then decline as others innovate and pull ahead. Could say the same about Lotus or Williams. I’m not a great fan of Ferrari, but we need to remember they are a total institution in Italy. When they are not winning they get major ‘stick’ at home!
