F1 Fanatic - Formula 3.5 V8
Ferrari protege Raffaele Marciello, driving for Strakka Racing, dominated day one of the second phase of post-season testing at Motorland Aragon, Spain. Sergey Sirotkin was second quickest with WSR 2.0 frontrunner and Lotus protege Esteban Ocon in 3rd.
Here’s a full report.
Marciello topped both today’s sessions and broke the lap record. Carlos Sainz 2nd and Olivier Rowland 3rd.
There was a big shunt from Liam Venter, the tyre barrier had to be repaired.
Marciello looks set to dominate the 2014 championship! I wonder if Ferrari will put him in FR 3.5 or DTM as they were thinking…
Sainz Jr looks to have gotten some speed back, bodes well for 2014..
Rowland, Gasly and Ghiotto seem to be getting up to speed well..
Lynn not yet, but he will come through in the end..
Nice, he definitely has a chance to do well there, and you can’t help but wonder if he is either going up against Sainz Jr for the 2015 Toro Rosso seat (when Vergne will be given the boot), or perhaps has time to wait until Kvyat moves on to RB (should Vettel or Ricciardo depart), perhaps for 2016.
Brazilian driver Pietro Fantin, who was Antonio Felix da Costa’s teammate at Arden Caterham, will race for International Draco Racing in 2014.
Not surprised to see Fantin back in the series for 2014. Lets hope that Sainz Jr is alongside Gasly at Arden Caterham for next year! Shoot-out for Toro Rosso! Was Sainz Jr at Int. Draco last year? Swap deal with Fantin?
@fastiesty No, Sainz was driving with Zeta Corse. Maybe Draco need to hang on to Brazilian sponsors, if any? Negrao is looking certain to move to GP2 in 2014, and Fantin as an immediate replacement..could be..
Ah yes, got confused. So it seems Negrao’s father runs the team, and yes probably to hang on to sponsors. Other driver to be announced soon…. There’s a lot of drivers rumoured to be moving into GP2 this year from FR3.5, strange given the budget increase needed… and there’s the outgoing GP2 drivers, and perhaps at the other end of the grid those struggling to find the budget? Perhaps they will be ‘swapped’ to a lower formulae or FR3.5 (after upcoming talents from FR2.0 have found seats).
The GP2 rejects might have to search for alternatives in sportscars, tin-tops etc., finding WSR seats might not be that easy…
Oliver Rowland, the RSF-backed Briton who finished runner-up in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship, has confirmed that he will be racing in WSR next year with Fortec Mortorsports.

So Vandoorne is all but certainly off to GP2?
@rjoconnell At the moment, it certainly seems so, with ART being the most likely destination for the Belgian.
