Remarkably, no one was hurt in two huge crashes at the start of the second F3 Open race at Spa last weekend.

The first happened at Les Combes, where Santiago Urrutia was flipped. Then another pile-up broke out on the run towards Pouhon as the Safety Car was deployed, with ten cars involved, forcing the stoppage of the race.

    Fortunately all involved were unhurt:

Nasty. Reminds me of the French GP2 round back in 2007 when the field slowed for the safety car only for EJ Viso to launch himself over the barriers.

Santi is our local hero, so I’d be lying if I don’t admit that my heart stopped when he was upside down. The second pileup was really strange in modern motorsport, but this is not the wealthiest of championships, so they don’t have loads of technology. Thank god they race F312’s.

Worth noting that Ed Jones cut Les Combes to end up leading, then didn’t give up his position and re-started on pole to end up winning.
