Wow, that was brilliant! Well done @sergio-perez! Is that your actual name, by the way?

How were you allowed onto the grid and up so close to the drivers like that? I am in awe of your work and the amount of effort that’s gone into this.

Thank you for sharing Keith! Thanks for the compliments damonsmedley!

Well, yes, that’s actually my name. Am not Mexican and certainly not an F1 driver, though! :)

Well, I get to get so close because I’ve been covering the GP for many years now. They allow me to get that close. Since my “low end equipment” doesn’t seem very intrusive they allow me to get the shots you see in the video. I’m really happy that you enjoyed it. It means all the hard work wasn’t for nothing :)

That’s brilliant Checo, really enjoyed it. I saw the race but it’s nice to see the highlights. Plus I’ve looked at your vimeo channel and watched the Motorcycles, it’s pretty crazy they race on such a track!

May I ask what the ‘covering the GP’ means? In what way do you do that?

Absolutely remarkable video. Great choice of music, especially for the action. Indeed I have never seen it work well for elongated action to epic kudos.

I especially like the Robin Williams//Steven Spielberg hybrid in the pits.

    More please…

@Enigma I can answer that one for you! It means to shoot footage, basically. Cover/coverage. Make sense? I’m terrible at explaining.

@Sergio-Perez Also, how did you make the SD footage look a little bit crisper? I know it doesn’t look anything like HD, but did you run a filter over it to make it look like that? It’s a massive shame that the race isn’t broadcast in HD.

Oh and btw…it’s great to see proper racing, no toys like DRS etc etc.

  • Profile picture of Enigma Enigma said 1 year, 7 months ago:

@damonsmedley Does that mean shooting or directing? Thanks for the answer.

@joshgeake The long straights at the beginning of the lap made it look like DRS though. It was really unfair to the leader to be losing out so much compared to the others.

Thank you all! Completely missed your compliment at the beginning, Mike, thank you!

This was a hell of a hard work. If you like this video, please do share it with fellow fanatics and friends. The more this is viewed the chances are I can do more and better next year. This was shot basically by a 2 man team, me and Aries, with a College student helping out on the file management and an audio recording friend that went from pit to pit interviewing the drivers. I wanted to do more, like to get my Go pro in one of the cars but couldn’t. I will definitely push for it next year. Also I’m personally investing in a High speed camera (that is low profile-looks like a still camera) so that I can provide even more spectacular shots for next year.

The broadcast footage looks better here because we get the digital broadcast in Macau. I think your satellite feed footage looks worse for whatever reason. Also I did some color correction and some “diffusion” to those shots to smooth out everything so that it looks more acceptable.

Once again, thanks all, glad you all liked it!

Wow. Someone should hire you to do the F1 race edits.

That would be a dream come true, Scalextric! :)
