    Hi everyone!

2012 will be my first F1 – I was hoping you knowledgeable lot could help me out with a couple of questions?

I’ve booked via silverstone.co.uk, with camping so will be staying in Woodlands (lively) – am I right in thinking that I’ll be pitching my tent right next to my car?

We were planning on driving down on Friday morning (from Newcastle so quite a journey) but I’ve noticed most people on here plan to arrive on Wednesday or Thursday – is this just to get a closer camping spot or am I missing out on something by not getting there earlier?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Probably best to arrive on Thursday, free practice is on friday so traffic etc is going to be a lot busier then. As for the camping, as far as i know you park your car next to your tent, i’m sure some of the campers on here will be able to advise you more.

    regards

Hi guys, my friend Katie and I are staying in Woodlands camping ground from Thursday – is there any word about who’s preforming at the site over the weekend? Or do we just find out when we get there?

Definitely suggest arriving on Thursday, if not Wednesday – means you’re all setup ready for the action from Friday morning. It’s also good to soak up as much of the atmosphere as possible. I’ve been camping at Silverstone for the last five British GPs – take sunscreen, waterproofs, a cheap bbq, cool box, beers and portable radio(s) for tuning into Radio Silverstone. If you’re sitting in a grandstand, don’t expect to get a good 3G signal on your smart device – radios work really well and ensure you don’t miss a thing!

On a side note, I can recommend some of the camping packages that IntentsGP offer, used them a couple of times – great bunch of people and the setup is just fantastic – takes the hassle out of camping (possibly call it ‘glamping’ !?)

Anyone got experience of camping @ Silverstone Golf Club?

Is there a seperate thread for camping @ the GP?

This will be my first time at an F1 event, going for the Saturday, thanks to a very generous other half.

Since we’re only there for the one day we’re not camping but stopping at her parents’ place Friday evening (about half-distance for us) and making the rest of trek to the circuit (very) early Saturday morning..

That said, can anyone recommend where to park/when to get there, and how to get to the circuit from where we leave the car?

just booked weekend tickets for Stowe C with camping at woodlands.
    3rd time in a row i’m going.

funny story, on both the times i went i saw the same people on the bus from northampton/silverstone/northampton. The girl with the David Coulthard/Scotland flag cap on the bus to northampton on monday morning and the guy-with-just-a-small-backpack on thursday and monday.
Let’s see if i see them again.

    Bring it on

I’m going to silverstone this year, and im taking my dad along as his birthday present. But i have never been to silverstone before, and i have no idea what so ever, to what kind of tickets i should. By looking at the prices and locations of the different grandstands, i’ve found out that the national pit straight should be all right, but i don’t know. I’ve have also been thinking about just buying a general admission ticket.

Any suggestions to which is better?

Hi, lucky dad, i wouldn’t sit at the National Pit Straight myself, its opposite the old pits and to be honest you wont see a lot. If you want to sit on that side of the circuit look at luffield or copse if there are any left. i’m sitting in Village A this year, its an open grandstand but does offer a very good view. General Admission is good there are more places to view than they actually show on the map, the only downside is that you have to get there very early to get a good spot, the upside is that the atmosphere is great at 5 o’clock in the morning. Where ever you decide you will have a great time. Are you going for the all three days or just race day.

    Hi everyone,
Im staying at the woodlands campsite this year for the first time as i have a 3 day gen admission ticket with a couple of my friends. Has anyone got any advice? i have a good idea where to sit each day (as ive been to silverstone twice before), but i was just wondering if the after parties are worth staying for? Is there any chance of getting autographs too?

    thanks
    Chris (age 18)

Hi, Nige, I don’t know if we will be staying for all three days, or just the race day yet. But i think it will be all three days. You say that Copse is better than national pit, and i think you’re right. since it is the first time, i think i will go for a grandstand, but is a seat really worth that much?

Hi Flemming, it really is a matter of choice, at least with a seat you know you have a spot, where as with general admission you need to get a spot early, you can get wedged in and life can be difficult getting to the loo etc. it all depends how the season is going for the brits really, if they are doing really well in the championship it will be packed, if not still very busy. Get a 3 day grandstand ticket and you can sit in any grandstand for friday and saturday, so it gives you both a good opportunity to have look around. You will have a great time whatever you decide to do.

    Cheers

Hi, I’m going to the British Grand Prix this year. I’ve been a few times in the past, however this year myself and my partner are considering going with our 7 month old daughter. I know she won’t know whats going on but you can never start them too early.

I’m in Woodcote B grandstand, I’m not too worried about noise as you can get infant ear protectors that do an excellent job.

Has anyone else taken a baby to a grand prix, any advice, experiences etc etc.

@Stevetlizard This is a subject that comes up from time to time – see here for more:

What age is too young for an F1 race?

  • Profile picture of Flemming Flemming said 1 year, 3 months ago:

Hi Nige, i’ve decided for a 3 day grandstand ticket. I’ve thought about copse as you suggested, but what about Stowe? i think that depends on the weather, but have you got any experience with the to grandstands?
