    Hey guys,

We’re looking at going but being put off by the huge camping costs. Through the official site they list £60 as the price per person for camping at Woodlands, but surely it should just be the cost of the pitch. I went in 2010 and only had to pay a single fee (there were 3 of us, in seperate tents and my car) so wondering what other people have done for booking. I had a look at Litchlake which is basically £135 for 2 nights for 2 people which seems like a massive rip off to camp somewhere, especially after the expensive race tickets.

Any advice on booking camping near the circuit or is my only option to pay £120+ to camp?

We’ve camped at Dadford Road campsite a couple of times. It’s considerably cheaper (£40 per tent for Fri-Sun or Mon), has hot showers and it’s about 10 minutes walk from the south part of the track (Club). We were watching from Stowe so it was pretty convenient. I’d recommend it.

My group are camping at Whittlebury Park (http://www.whittlebury.com/index.php?pag=cms&id=240&p=camping.html). It’s £145 for the plot anytime from Wednesday until Monday, so not cheap, but might work out a bit cheaper depending on how many people you’re going with.
Sorry I can’t be more help.

    Hi Alan,

I went last year and camped at Woodlands, have booked again for this year. I did a little research and for the 4 night’s I would want to stay Silverstone Golf Club is £55 per person, Camping F1 is £65 each and Hamilton Fields is £50 each.

It seems like everywhere is charged for per person now and not per pitch. I’ve chosen to stick with Woodlands, personally I was impressed by the way they handled the weather last year and the £60 that Woodlands charge seems to be the average.

Hi i was put off by the high prices so i found a small campsite in Banbury that cost me £13 per night with hot showers and a pub just down the road . We stayed there for 2 nights ,Friday and Saturday night it is about a 20 minute drive to the circuit ,We always left the camp site early about 6am and got there no problems . We stay at a B+B now in Banbury. If you are interested in the site i will have to find it out.

I know its not the nearest, but you could always take advantage of the park and ride, and camp near the pickup point. I looked into this option, and it’d be about £10-20 a night, depending on how many people and the site. Only a short walk/drive from the pickup point, and no high prices!

    Hi Alan,

We have stayed at Cavalier Fields three times now. It used to be listed on the Silverstone web site camping page, but got knocked off last year.

It is a couple of miles from the circuit (Luffield corner), but we take bikes and cycle in. We also like the Fox & Hounds pub in Whittlebury, which is on the way to the circuit.

Cavalier Fields is quiet, well drained, friendly and not as expensive as closer camp sites, but still has a good atmosphere. Don’t go there if you want to be camped on top of your neighbour and party all night (please!)

I think you’ll find the quote at Litchlake is for the entire stay, we pitched our caravan Wednesday till Monday morning for £140 total, by far the most convenient site imo.

Last time I was at Silverstone, there was Silverstone FM (radio station) but I didn’t have a portable radio so didn’t get to listen other than in the car at the campsite. With the loss of FanVision this year, can anyone confirm if they provided commentary so I can just use an analog FM radio (such as the one my phone has), or do I need to pick up a portable DAB/DTV for 5liveextra/BBC1 for commentary/video at the circuit? I know there’s big screens, but my experience is that you’re usually quite a distance away and sunshine can make it hard to see.

Can someone please send more fortune cookies to eat so I can win this: http://www.pokerlistings.com/competitions and see the finals this year?
LOL. Seriously, I’ll eat a box just to get the tickets.

@Alan I always use my iPod Nano. Radio commentary is brilliant.

    Hi Alan

You do not not need any special device to receive Silverstone FM. If you can receive radio on your phone that will work fine or we have an ancient Silverstone portable radio – new version can be purchased from the shop at the circuit.

I was really looking forward to the British Grand Prix this year, my tickets are booked but just been told I can’t drive for 6 months due to health, already booked camping so I have a real problem. Can anyone offer any advice on possible transport from West Yorkshire with all the camping equipment?
