I’m going too. Just booked my tickets direct with the SIC using my motorsportXS membership card and got 20% discount :O) I’m in the main grandstand. Do you know where is best to stay? thanks!

@tommor27 – Luckily for you, SIC is just 5 minutes away from the airport. But if you’re bringing your wife to the hotel first, that will take a while – KLCC is around 45-60 minutes away from the airport, depending on traffic.

@modusimg – I don’t think they allow it, no.

@gtskater – They haven’t sold out lately (except maybe the top-tier seats), so I’m sure you can buy tickets at the SIC website even a week before the race.

@johannes – If it’s your first time in KL, there’s a lot of options in the city. If it’s not (or you’re not the touristy type), there’s a bunch of good hotels near the airport. If you’re lucky, you could run into Will Buxton or Joe Saward in the hotel lobby and maybe get a bit of F1 gossip from them.

What are the merchandise prices like at the track?

Also for anyone who scored an F1 Afterparty ticket for sunday night on top of Lot 10, i will see you there. One of my “contacts” managed to fenagle me one.

I cant wait, by them time Melbourne F1 comes round i will be jumping out of my skin in anticipation for Sepang. If you guys want to meet up PM me or follow @Number20six on twitter.

@tommor27 – Merchandise prices are okay. Same price as you’d find it online, but you’d obviously save on S&H. That said, a warning: since it’s early in the season, not all teams would’ve been able to unveil their 2012 gear yet, so some are still selling 2011 merch. I’m fussy about that kind of thing (because it doubles as my souvenir that I was at a race for that year), but if you’re not, then you should be alright. Let us know how it goes!

P.S. An F1 Afterparty ticket? Lucky you! :)

Merchandise prices are the same at the track as online……. go into KLCC and Petronas have a big stall set up, heaps of souvenirs etc,,, tshirts 10usd.. bring a fan with u its stinking hot man

Hey fellow aussie, yeah i am just a stones throw from KLCC. I will be there with bells on. The shirts good qulaity? Colourfast etc? Speaking of KLCC i will looking to take the Sky-Bus from KLCC to SIC. Anyone used the skybus service? is it like the bread line in russia or pretty organized?

As for food and refreshments, are they extortive at the SIC or pretty reasonable? Like a bottle a water i dont mind paying RM8-9 a 600ml bottle or maybe 12-15 RM for a burger or something? How gestapo are they when they search you for the food and drinks on walking through the gate?

And journeyer i know exactly what you mean about the merch. I am exactly the same, theres nothing wrong with that.

Also i got my tix not long ago and freaked out that my friday session was missing, what a newb, then discovered friday is free. Just in case others were wondering.

Sky-Bus seems the go even though your in KL Sentral. If you use the train you will still need to hop a bus to SIC. Sky-Bus takes you there with 1 or 2 stops, maybe none, but you dont have to get off the KLIA train then find a bus. Go here, seems pretty good deal, Altjhough the link is out of date it will give you a rough idea.

@tommor27 I’d recommend the train over the bus, for one simple reason: traffic. It can be very difficult to get in and out of KL during that weekend – even more so when it rains. Also, once you get off the KLIA Transit train, you will be led by ushers to the airport lobby, where there will be buses waiting for you.

@lamo2741 I don’t think so, but Fanvision should be available at the circuit (and I found it to be worth every penny). In any case, the PA commentary also switches between Bahasa Malaysia and English, so you should be at least partially OK.

shows this is my first F1. so yeah traffic will be mad. KL Sentral is the go to KLIA, then SIC.

not sure how to get the tix though for KLIA, as with sky-bus at least you can buy them at the KLIA on arrival. Would imagine you could do the same with the Trains?

Also heard that you canbuy a personal radio thingy when your there, read some reviews. they cost a bit appraently and are a bugger to return as you have to traverse across a long distance. is what i read anyway. maybe sojmeone here who went last year can clarify on transport and the radio gadget at the track?…2 more weeks can pass so slowly. at least Melb F1 is not long to go.

You can choose to buy online now or just buy on the day itself. Works either way. There will be volunteers at the KL Sentral lobby that will guide you if you need any help.

As for a personal radio, I guess you can buy one, but I wouldn’t know how much. The reason I went for Fanvision was mostly for 5Live and Crofty. :)

BTW, I’m basing this all on experience, as I watched there in 2009. Was VERY lucky that year – they lumped Brawn and RBR together in the driver autograph sessions. :)

Have just mad a last minute decision to go to Malaysia for the F1. We head over there a couple times a year but never been to the race, and I am really looking forward to the Trip. Leaving the wife to shop while I go to the f1. However never been to the cir uit and need some advice where to sit and where to buy tickets from. Being Australian always go the Melbourne f1 but wanted a change. Appreciate anyone’s help in advance

Hi JON, fellow Aussie, mate having also been to the race a few times, i personally really like the back straight just before the hairpin, upper tier, u have an awesome view of the track & can really appreciate the speed coming into that hairpin then hard braking, you can also see over the back to another section of track ( think Simoncelli crash corner r.i.p. ) and the cars come through there really fast..
From a tickets point of view that back straight is top value…. Oh and also its nice and shady ( covered ) so u wont get too cooked… Enjoy =)
