@drwatson I suggest finding a taxi ahead of time and setting up a flat rate with him for both directions. Then just set up a time to be picked up from the track, and you could meet him right down at the highway.

@drwatson There will be a special shuttle service from KLIA to Sepang Circuit during the race weekend. You can get from KL Sentral train station to KLIA via the KL Transit train. More info here (this is from 2012, but they’ve done this every year as far as I remember):

Sounds like the train is the quickest way to get to the track vs. taxi. I’d prefer negotiating to grab a cab there but if it’s going to take twice the time due to traffic then I’m probably going to train it….I’ll be staying in downtown at the Shangri La so I’ll cab it to the nearest train station….6 weeks away before I fly over to KL…just now starting to get excited about it…it’d be good to catch up with some fanatic members here for drinks in KL.

Hi, can someone explain the logistics of the busses/shuttles post race. As I understand it, you get an internal shuttle bus from the stands to the KLIA transfer bus, which then takes you from outside the track to KLIA. Everyone seems to say that the internal shuttles were impossibly busy and spent hours waiting for space, but I cant understand why the shuttles are needed if you’re in K1 or Grandstands. From the circuit map linked below, is the KLIA transfer bus point opposite the petrol station (the pink “Drop off zone” in the map linked below)? If so, cant you just walk from K1/Grandstand to the Drop Off Zone, which looks like circa 10mins walk, and could save you a lot of waiting time?

I’d like to know too…first time to the Sepang track. That’s partly why l like the street circuits at Singapore..I left my hotel downtown and within 5-7mins on the subway I was at my gate for the race and went back and forth with no hesitation….this will be a task to get back and forth or sounds like it will…might be worth the money to book a taxi, time is money!…sometimes! :-)

Make a deal with a taxi driver from your hotel to take you up and back from the circuit for the weekend, they will wait all day at the circuit for you,ive done this all the time but ive also managed to get other people staying in my hotel to share so it spreads the cost and works out not much more expensive than public transport, thats what most people do if they are staying in kl
Ask at your hotel for them to put a sign up at reception asking if anybody wants to share ive seen these a few times

@Alexgreen – If you can physically get into a taxi quicker than you can get onto a KLIA transfer bus, then surely its quicker to get the taxi to KLIA, and then take the express train which is only 28mins to KL? I thought (at least part of) the issue is the traffic jams around the track, and indeed all the way into KL, so getting a taxi all the way has surely got to take much longer than a taxi to KLIA plus a 28min train?

I’m getting someone now to see if they can book me a taxi from my hotel to the track for all 3 days…think it’ll be less stressful of waiting…once I find out the cost I’ll post here..and if someone wants to get in on my ride and split, more the. Welcome, I’m staying down at the shangri la
