    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the info i could read through before booking, we just booked tickets in K8 high.

What should we do on the Saturday night? stay in Nice or head into Monaco??

Whats the best way to get between Nice and Monaco??

    Cheers,

    Hi Murray

I would guess on Saturday night it is really down to what you want to do. As we always stay in Nice we tend to head back there for the evening, although we keep saying we ought to stay in Monaco just for the people watching. I am sure other F1 fans will be able to give you some ideas for the evening.

With regards to your question re the best way to get between Nice and Monaco it depends if you are on a budget. Helicopter is the quickest but most expensive way to get there, although we found it too much hassle having to take your passport, go through security etc and then at the other end get to where you needed to be on the circuit. We did it just to say we had done it.

The next option, and which is the way we always go in on Saturday and race day is by boat from Nice. Not as expensive as the helicopter, and you are limited as to when you can travel (usually a couple of options each way), but a lovely relaxed way to travel. You go into Fontvielle which can be a bit chaotic as all the boats drop off there, but it is not too far to walk into Monaco. You do have to book your tickets though for this.

The cheapest option is the train. The downside is that especially on race day the volume of people trying to get on the train mean that you can be waiting some time before you can get back. Not so much of a problem if you want to hang around for a while after the race.

    Hope that helps a little.

    Thanks Caroline,

Looks like we might catch the boat to the race and the train home, is there much to do after the race, somewhere to head to?? I guess just walking around will be enough!!

    Cant Wait!

Hi everyone, we are going for the Saturday and sunday this year and wondered if anyone has the boat transfer details as we used a boat in August 2008 which was vey nice and relaxing but mainly used the bus service both from Nice which was very busy on the return trips in 2008 & 2010.
Like Murray’s request we are also interested if anyone enlighten us on places to hang out in Monte Carlo after each of these days racing as we have never experienced the G P Atmosphere before?
In Nice we have previously Ma Nolans amongst others but this time we are in the Victor Hugo end of town and also wondered where the popular places to be are?
We did intend to take the trains and heard that the last one back from Monte Carlo is 11pm is that correct? Any train tips would be much appreciated as well, we cannot wait to sample the whole experience !

    Hi Graham

I’m sure Caroline will come back to you with the details of the boat company she uses for Nice/Monaco transfer.

There are lots of restaurants and bars for you to enjoy over the weekend where you don’t need tickets, there are also parties, clubs and yacht parties etc. which you would need tickets for.

The atmosphere around the harbour, along the start/finish straight and throughout Monaco is great so if it were me I would stick around that area. Casino Square will be good also but on Casino Sq itself you really only have the casino, Cafe de Paris and the American Bar of Hotel de Paris (latter two are expensive).

La Rascasse is good on a Friday but as I’ve mentioned in previous posts the atmosphere is somehow different, more aggressive, on Sunday after the race. This is from personal experience and feedback from quite a few of our guests. There are lots of venues in the harbour and along start/finish straight so don’t worry about finding somewhere.

In Nice there are lots of tourist trap restaurants and bars but there are many good one also, Tripadvisor should keep you right and if you PM me your email address I’ll send you the info pack and restaurant suggestions we send our guests.

Don’t hold me to this but from memory I think the last train back from Monaco was just before midnight in 2012.

I hope that helps, do let us know where you decide to watch the race from and why, it is always helpful for others.

If I can help with anything further or you just want to pick my brains let me know.
    Best wishes
    Ed

There is a bus from the airport to Monaco, depending how far you are out of the airport, or if you can get to the train station there are regular trains to Monaco.

There are several operators of boats, although some are the speedboats and are quite expensive. We have use Trans Cote D’Azur. The rate for this year is 58 Euros per adult one way so not cheap, but it is a lovely way to go in and out of Monaco – makes it feel a bit more special and takes out the hassle of queues etc although it does get a bit chaotic travelling back from Monaco as you tend to get mixed up with the people waiting for tenders back to the cruise ships etc so you do have to be very aware of what is happening.

Re places to eat etc, we always stay near the old town so can only give suggestions for that area I am afraid.

    Hi Murray

I’ve sent the info pack, restaurant suggestions and a map of Monaco to the email address you PMd me.

Some of the info in the documents (timings, etc.) is incomplete because we don’t finalise them until nearer the time to ensure the information is as accurate as possible. We would also update the restaurant lists nearer the time to take into account new venues, those which have closed/improved/deteriorated etc. so compare what I’ve sent for restaurants with tripadvisor or other review sites to get a more rounded picture of particular venues.

If I can help with anything else or you just want to pick my brains let me know.
    All the best

Thanks for the info and advice, can anyone tell how to pm ?

Hi Graham – I just sent the message below to you, let me know if you get it. Regards, Ed.

Hi Graham, I think…think this might be the way to message someone, let me know if you get this and we’ll know for sure. Sorry, I thought it was straightforward but I’ve struggled with the new forum format since it changed

    - I do seem to be the only one however so don’t take offence Keith :)

    Hi,

First of all, thanks for being such a fantastic mine of information – so many tips here!

Two questions I’ve looked for the answer to, but to no avail. I can’t see Rocher tickets available for Thursday practice. Does this mean that it’s not open, or that it’s free to go up there for practice? Secondly, I’ve read of one guy’s experience of driving round the track in his own car at midnight on Friday. Is this possible?

Many thanks in advance – hoping to get to Monaco for my 40th in 2014!

    Hi Simon
There are no rocher tickets for Thursday I believe because price of grandstand tickets is so low and the grandstands are far from full. So if you preferred the hill I’m pretty sure there would be nothing stopping you.

The ‘track’ in Monaco is simply some of the streets which are used daily throughout the year. They are closed early morning over the weekend and re-opened after racing has finished for the day and debris etc has been cleared so yes, as soon as the roads which make up the track are open again sometime in the evening each day you will find a procession of cars driving where f1 cars where a few hours before…admittedly much slower and generally in a queue of traffic until much later at night when traffic dies down.

I hope that helps, if there is anything else feel free to pm me or post here.

    Ed,

That’s great thanks! Driving round on the Friday evening is on the list then!

Last question from me – does the hill get busy for qualifying? At the moment I’m thinking Tribune B for Thursday practice and Rocher for qualifying. Trying to do this on a budget, what do you think?

No problem Simon, happy to help.

Personally i would rather my Monaco Grand Prix 2013 experience was sitting in a bar or restaurant with a cold beer watching it on tv than watching it from Rocher…but some folks absolutely love it there and have a lot of fun (maybe I’m just getting old!). From memory it is busy all weekend (although more so on the Sunday obviously) with people camping out to get the best spots, sectioning areas off for their own groups, etc. If you do decide on Rocher, get there as early as you can and take a few things to make the experience more comfortable like a seat cushion, rain poncho, sunglasses/hat, food & drinks, binoculars perhaps, ear plugs if you’re at all sensitive to the noise, appropriate clothing for the weather, etc…and go to the loo before you settle yourself in on the hill!

B is ok but for me the view at casino square is too limited with the same thing over and over again with the most interesting thing being the slightly different racing line that each driver takes through it and the architecture of the Hotel de Paris and Casino etc (which you can see when the racing isn’t on!). If it were me I would do K1 high (or as close as I could get to that) and have a more extensive view (from the tunnel, chicane, run to Tabac, Tabac corner itself and then some of Piscine) and when there is no action on track there is more to see with the harbour, yachts, sea, etc.

I hope that helps, if there is anything else just ask.
    All the best
    Ed

Fantastic – thankyou so much for the help! Going to watch the race in a bar, just want to experience some of Monaco without breaking the bank – or the casino!
