Hi Ed, I have a very quick question…

I’m planning to be in Monaco on Thursday May 23rd for the practice runs. I am debating between one of two options that involves watching the race and having a sit down lunch/dinner on the track.

A.) Sit down lunch on the track at Hotel de Paris – Salle Empire for $347
//I am worried that we will not be able to move around to other seats even if it is on Thrusday…

B.) Book a reservation for another restaurant along the track (cost unknown) but buy grand stand K tickets for $99 to get both views (close to the ground on the restaurant and wide view from the grandstand)

What’s your opinion and do you think booking one of these packages is available via ACM (Automobile Club de Monaco)?

Thanks Ed for all your feedback – we all honestly appreciate it!!!

    Hi All

I am looking to go to Monaco F1 in 2014 and would appreciate any input re:

Flights from Manchester or Leeds Bradford

Accommodation in Nice (self catering for 4 people)

Which tickets to look at buying and when are the tickets for 2014 released? We have a limited budget and would be looking to visit the track on at least Saturday and Sunday (possibly Thurs).

    Thanks for your help
    Diane

    Hi Manny

I replied to your post last night from my blackberry but i see it hasn’t reached the forum here…did it come through to you as a private message or anything like that?

In case it didn’t the gist of it was…

Thank you for the nice comments, I’m absolutely happy to help my fellow f1 fans.

If that is the combination you fancy I would suggest a restaurant in the harbour or on the start/finish straight with your K stand ticket. This would make the logistics of getting to K stand much easier than getting to/from the Hotel de Paris. When the roads are closed it is not a straightforward route to/from HdP/K grandstand!

Your tickets for the grandstand you can get from the ACM yes but – unless they’ve changed things very recently…disclaimer :) – they don’t sell restaurant tickets.

We have a couple of different options, if you would like the info just email or message me and I’ll send the details Manny.

Let me know if you have any queries.
    All the best
    Ed

    Hi Diane

    Welcome.

Regarding your flights, the best advice is to find an airline, route and price that you are happy with and go for it direct. Unless there is a value in someone else booking your flights for you (e.g. time saving, convenience, etc.) then you can get great deals direct. If it helps I know we helped with some flights for a group of our guests this week who were flying from Manchester to Nice for the GP. They are departing Friday returning Monday with Flybe and the flights were around £230 pp.

Self catering accommodation in Nice…be careful, like everywhere else there are bogus apartments and rental agents etc. so go through a reputable rental site and check the property details as thoroughly as you can. I don’t really want to make recommendations but if you send me an email I’ll reply with some of the French property and rental companies we are familiar with or with some of the apartments we have rented for guests ourselves.

If you are doing it on a budget then sector rocher is the cheapest area but it is literally a rocky hillside, up from that you have grandstands and different folks prefer different stands but K stand is considered by many to be the best with K1 high the best stand in that block. The tickets tend to go on sale somewhere between a month and 4 months after the race so I’m afraid no one will be able to tell you exactly when they will be on sale until nearer the time. I’m sure there are some posts in here somewhere which mention when they went on sale for 2013 but I don’t recall from memory.

I hope that helps. If there is anything else please don’t hesitate to post here or to message me directly.
    Kind regards
    Ed

Thanks very much Ed for the email, such a great set of info

do you get to the GP as early as possible?? is there much to see/do before the racing begins??

  • Profile picture of FugareF1 Ed FugareF1 Ed said 4 months, 3 weeks ago:

    Hi Murray

No problem, if you have any other queries don’t hesitate to ask.

I’m back and forward to Monaco throughout the year, I enjoy working there…my joints don’t ache as much in the hot weather :). For the GP in Monaco I’m usually there for a few weeks before and after. There is always something going on in Monaco and the entire area is beautiful with lots to see and do in France and Italy also, I really enjoy some of the local markets in Italy, great fun, great produce.

    Anything else please just ask.
    Best wishes
    Ed

    Hi Diane

Re your flights, we live in Derbyshire so have flown out of Leeds Bradford and East Midlands before and I believe, depending when you want to fly out/back Jet2 also fly out of Manchester and East Midlands or Monarch fly out of Birmingham. We have struggled this year however as we are flying out on Wednesday and back on Monday which falls on a BH – the airfares are ridiculous £800 for the pair of us, so we have ended up flying out of Gatwick. May be a case of the early bird catching the worm but obviously the one problem if you book too early is if for any reason the date is changed (this happened to us a couple of years ago) you may not be able to change your flight.

I agree with Ed re self catering, we did it the first year and ended up having to find a hotel which was an unplanned expense as the accommodation was not what it seemed when I booked it. I am sure however that there are other forum members that may be able to recommend somewhere or of course if you are feeling brave I think F1 camping have a set up for this race.

With regard to when tickets go on sale, historically they used to go on sale with ACM at the start of December, but the last couple of years this has been earlier. In fact for this year the tickets they threw us a total flanker as we always book the British GP as soon as we get home after the race on the early bird tickets – had just booked them for this year when someone on the forum advised that the Monaco tickets had gone on sale – that was July! Piggy bank imploded! Unless they change it if you go on a 3 day ticket Thursday is free.

If you are only planning on attending Monaco just once then I would definitely recommend that you try and splash out and try to get tickets on K1 or K2 – as high as possible. However, these are the first tickets to go so it is really a case of keep checking the web site for ACM from say the end of June.

    Hi

I am taking my hubby here for his birthday as a surprise and need some tips and advice as I don’t know much about f1.

I found most of the prices and flights out of my leauge so I have done a week holiday flying to and front montpellier and driving along the coast staying at quieter towns.

For the f1 weekend I have arranged the camping via f1 camping. I know that this is just outside of monaco and then there is a free shuttle

I have rocher tickets for the saturday and sunday. I have seen mixed reviews but I would hope that the experience of being there will be great for my husband

If anyone has any tips of advice on the campsite it would be great – if anyone has been there, what it is like, how far away it is from monaco, are the shuttle buses regular etc

Then regarding rocher, i know it is a rocky hillside but as we arrive in monaco friday, I was hoping to go down there as i beleive there is a free pit walk? and then can i secure a spot a rocher for the whole weekend? what is the best way to do this? i am willing to go there with seats and secure them somehow? I have heard you can do this and people respect your space? I want to make sure I get the best spot possible so if people have done this before then let me know. I’ve tried to give myself plenty of time to ensure we don’t end up with a bad viewing point on the day!

So any tips on rocher and monaco f1 then please let me know! I want to go prepared!

    Hi f1newbie

I can’t comment on the campsite or shuttles but perhaps another forum contributor can.

I’m not sure if Rocher tickets give you access to the pit walk on Friday, a weekend grandstand ticket certainly does but not so sure about Rocher, unless someone else can say for sure here you should call or email the ACM (www.acm.mc) to check.

General advice for Rocher…get there as early as you can and take a few things to make the experience more comfortable like a seat cushion/seat, rain poncho, sunglasses/hat, food & drinks, binoculars perhaps, ear plugs if you’re at all sensitive to the noise, appropriate clothing for the weather, etc…and go to the loo before you settle yourself in on the hill! Some folks camp on the hill for days beforehand to get the best spots.

All the best, I hope you both enjoy your trip.

Hi, what day is the autograph session and when do they open the pits up? I am arriving Wed afternoon in Nice so hope I can get down to the track. Thanks

  • Profile picture of FugareF1 Ed FugareF1 Ed said 4 months, 1 week ago:

    Hi Benedict
I’m not sure when the autograph session is but access to the pits is restricted most of the time if you mean during race sessions. There are pit walks with paddock club tickets or you can buy a pit lane tour separately. It is also open for free on the Friday afternoon to holders of a weekend day grandstand ticket.
    Hope that helps

    Hi,
My wife and I are planning on going to the Monaco Grand Prix this year and I have booked a hotel in Cannes (on points). How long does it take to get from Cannes to Monaco, and what is the best way of getting there? Thanks for any input.

My best friend and I are very excited to be visiting Monaco in May. Our menfolk are going to the race on Saturday and Sunday and we would like to spend a day and night in the city, if not both days. Any tips for two ladies in their late twenties looking for atmosphere, mingling, nice spot to sit with lunch/drinks and take in views of the harbour or track but not actually having tickets for the race. Also I love to know where we could socialise on Saturday or Sunday night….would love to go to a party or club but wouldn’t really pay over 100euro as an entrance or ticket to a venue unless it included drinks etc. i have read your posts about yacht parties, is there a website to look at the choices and prices? Finally, we have access to apartment in Menton so that’s where we will be staying. I’m imagining we would share a taxi back, 4 people, would that be v expensive?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
