Hi Guys. I am new to the site and also new to F1 so please bear with me. I have booked tickets to Monaco GP this May as a surprise for my partner’s 40th. I know very little about the sport if I am honest and I asked advice and ended up in Tribune T (high) for all four days. I am now seeing a lot of reviews suggesting K is the best view and am worried I made a bad choice, should I be worried? Also, does anyone have any ideas whether there is any sort of dress code in Tribune T? And if not, what would people suggest we wear? Dress smart or casual? Wrap up or something cool? And finally does anyone know if you’re allowed to take a DSLR camera as a lot of major sports events don’t allow it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi NewGirl, I too am a girl and new to this forum, but everyone is really friendly, VERY knowledgable, and willing to offer great tips and advice.
Grandstand K would be my choice if I were to go (one day maybe !), but I think that Monaco is more about the experience of actually being there, rather than great views and moves.
I’m sure you will have a fantastic time……not heard of any dress codes….but I’d just check the forecast before going to see if you need wet-weather gear.
I was in the south of France the other week and walked the grand prix circuit…..sooo wish I was going now after reading your post :-)
If you are travelling in by train, you will probably need the westerly exit for your grandstand (towards Rocher), but I am sure everything will be signposted on the day….have fun.

    Hi NewGirl

Tribune T, if I am correct overlooks the pits. We sat there on our very first trip to Monaco, but only for the Thursday. If you want to see the pit action it is a good place to sit and we met some people who had been going for years and sat there each time. If I am honest, was OK for a day, but when it came to the race you don’t see that much because it is a very short piece of the circuit, however there is a screen directly in front of you so you can see the action on the track. Given the choice and this is where we always sit for the race, K is in our opinion the best grandstand, however you need to be in the upper seats and ideally K1 which always gets booked up quickly. There is no dress code however, that grandstand is fine early on in the day when the sun is behind you but as it moves around it can get very hot – we were going down behind the grandstand to get some shade. (Of course this assumes it is going to be hot and not tip it down which it has done before!!!) Only thing I would say is make sure you put plenty of sun screen on, take something to cover up with – if not you willl burn if it is hot, and a hat. We also take our waterproofs just in case!

Thanks so much for your replies, it’s very helpful. I got a deal where I got the Thursday and the Pit Walk free if I book both Saturday and Sunday in the same seats or I would have had K for some of it :( Feel a bit of a knot in my stomach now that I made the wrong choice, I know he’s always loved seeing the yachts on the TV but someone said to me when making my choice ‘is he going to see the sea or the cars, in which case the pits view would be better’. I took that and rushed and now slightly regretting my choice. Hey ho. I’m sure he will be happy to be going anyway. I’m pleased there’s no dress code so we can dress for the weather rather than the rules :) although I expect if you were to stay in Monaco for a drink or to sample the casino etc afterwards there would be a dress code there perhaps? Thanks again for your help ladies.

    Hi NewGirl

To reinforce some of the points – there is absolutely no dress code on the grandstands, dress for the weather. I’ve never heard of anyone being turned away from the bars around the port area after the race because they weren’t dressed up but if you were to attend on of the Michelin star restaurants for example, some of the hotel bars or the Casino you may have to dress up accordingly.

Definitely take sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a rain poncho just in case, ear defenders…and a seat cushion! Also look into renting a FanVision unit (or one each), they have had some signal problems in the past couple of years but when they work they are great little miniature TVs which allow you to follow the race stats, your favourite driver, commentary, etc.

T high is a good stand, 4 days is a long time in one spot in Monaco but I’m sure you will have a blast. You could always if you wanted to mix it up a little and do something else on the Thursday and/or Friday (e.g. view from a yacht or a yacht party at night) which would be relatively inexpensive by comparison to the weekend…but you’ve already paid for your tickets for those days so you would be paying twice!!

I hope that helps, if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask.
    Kind regards

Thanks so much for that Ed. It helps a lot. Do you know if you’re able to wander about on the Thursday to maybe view from other areas? Or is it a case of you sit in your allocated tribune and don’t move?! I’d like to take photo’s (if DSLR cameras are allowed) and like you say, 4 days with same view is a lot.

    Thanks again

Hi NewGirl – just replied to your PM for the Friday morning on yacht, let me know if you have any queries or need more info.

DSLR cameras are no problem at all, I’ve never known anyone to have an issue (other than being told by the police not to take photographs of the palace!).

From memory…Friday is a free for all so you can sit where you like, no allocated seating and no charge but I think (someone correct me if I’m wrong) Thursday is allocated seating same as Sat & Sun. I tried to check the ACM website to confirm but Microsoft Silverlight keeps crashing on me so I can’t get the site to load. If I have any luck and find out for certain I’ll post again with the definite info.

If there is anything else please don’t hesitate to ask.
    Best wishes

Just spotted a post from Caroline mentioning that Thursday is first come first served, so this gives you the opportunity to choose a different grandstand – and if you’re early enough you might get K1!
    Cheers

    Hi Ed

Thursday is first come first served but only in the grandstand you have tickets for, you are not allowed in any of the other grandstands as far as I am aware. Sorry if I have confused anyone.

Thanks for clarifying Caroline, I couldn’t remember.

See you in a few weeks, I don’t know about you but I’m getting excited :)
