Well I am going this next year (2014) and wondered if anyone had any advice. I wanted to go to the race but because of ticket prices I think we are just going to go for free practice thursday, will it still be cool to see??? I just don’t know what I should do.

I am going to next year GP, I am looking at accommodation about 2.5km away from the track, there is a bus stop about 5mins walk away. What is the public transport like during the GP, I understand been the tight streets of Monaco it is going to be vey congested. Looking for your previous experiences.
Do they put on extra buses?
    Are taxis difficult to get?

    Hi all

Clinton Monaco is very different to Abu Dhabi. AD spoils you but cannot match the history of Monaco. To stay in Monaco is very expensive. We have always opted to stay in Nice and travelled in as race tickets are extremely expensive. Abu Dhabi is very cheap for tickets in comparison. There is excellent transport via trains and buses from Nice (unless they go on strike) which then causes total gridlock on Monaco as was the case last year! However on Saturday and Sunday there is a boat (need to book in advance) which docks in Fontvielle which is a 10 minute walk to the centre of Monaco and well worth doing as it is chaos after the race from public transport point of view. It also adds to the experience and makes you feel of a celebrity. Grandstand K1 and K2 are the best but have to be high up and these tend to be first to go. I believe you did hospitality at Abu Dhabi (South for us but fantastic experience.) if you are after this contact Ed at Fugare he has some fantastic options, but, if you are a true f1 fan do not do a boat! We always do hospitality on Thursday so have done it all but still prefer grandstand with fans on race day.

I’ve been flip flopping between going back to Monaco next year (Did attend this years GP) or the Singapore GP.

Money alone, going to back to Monaco will cost me at least an additional $1,500.00 USD but I will be able to slide up to Paris for the French Open which I’ve always wanted to do.

Anyways, I stayed in Nice (In Magnan) in an apt. that cost me not even $400 for 4 days. I took the advice of some Grand Prix vets who advised I buy my train tickets from Nice to Monaco in advance so that I would not have to queue on race day. Great piece of advice!!! Even though I still ended up waiting in a massive line for about an hour, the line for people without tickets was even longer.

My advice to the thread starter would be to pop off for Race Day tickets and skim on accommodations if you could. If your just a casual F1 fan, then going to the practice session might make more sense.

Also, stay in Nice if money is an issue and attempt to buy your sncf ticket in advance “if” your going to Monaco on race day. The train station in Nice isn’t as packed on Saturday as it is on Sunday.

Hi all, I’m taking my husband to Monaco as a surprise for his 40th next year. I’m really stuck on what to do about watching it – hospitality is out of the question as I can’t stretch that far, so I’m thinking of B (Casino) on the Saturday and K on the Sunday. However, from my research some people have suggested it’s better to watch from a restaurant as it’s not so much about the race, more about the atmosphere. Are the grandstands uncomfortable, do you have to stay in your seat for hours? And if I do book a restaurant does anyone have any recommendations?

    Thanks very much!

    Hi Victoria

I would think that sitting in a restaurant defeats the object of going to the race especially if your husband is an F1 fan and whilst it may suit you he is possibly going to be disappointed. The atmosphere is on the grandstands and Monaco is a unique circuit where you are closest to the cars due to it being a street circuit and the noise is amazing (obviously we don’t know what the cars are going to sound like next year) Casino square is ok but I wouldn’t want to watch the race from there but great for photos on Saturday. K is a brilliant grandstand but ideally you need to be as high up as possible and as near to K1 or K2 if possible as you get to see quite a lot of the track action. Bit scary last year as we thought Maldonado was coming into our grandstand. Your tickets are for allocated seats on Saturday and Sunday so you are free to come and go as you please on the grandstand. Obviously you need to factor in that at certain times it is very busy eg just before the race, drivers parade – everyone is trying to get on the grandstand at the same time so gets bottle necked so don’t think you can just stroll back to your grandstand with a couple of minutes to spare. Seats are like any grandstand and not built for comfort which is why a lot of people have the cushions you can buy which open out to make it more comfortable. As K is on the harbour people watching is great fun.

Ed is your man for this one. We have only ever gone in by taxi once when the trains were on strike and I seem to think it was quite expensive just for one way never mind return. The trains are very cheap and as long as they don’t go on strike are pretty frequent. The train station is central in Monaco but depending where you are looking at staying in Nice could be a bit of a walk.

Going to be in Monaco from Thurs-Monday for the race…looking to get simm card for my iphone 5 for data only for the 4 days I’m there…doesn’t seem to be too many info on the best option for this…don’t really need the cell part of it as I’ll use data only for communication. Any suggestions? or is free wifi the way to go in Monaco?

As far as I know you still need to buy a wifi pass for the publicly available service in Monaco (someone correct me if that’s changed recently) but there are various bars and restaurants offering free wifi.

    For sim cards try carrefour.fr.

For those who know: how much are accommodations (if they can be found) in Monaco during the GP weekend? Is it a case of, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it”?

Otherwise, staying in Nice and taking the train to Monaco seems like the most sensible option…

It depends Steven, the hotels in Monaco usually have a 3, 4 or 5 night minimum charge which runs to around 5,000 euro upwards. To minimise cost staying outside of Monaco is a good option and Nice is very popular.
