First practice session: Calado was quickest, from Trummer and Dillmann. The session was littered with lock-ups. Julian Leal completely missed turn 7 and went straight through into the gravel – he was able to continue. Another driver in trouble was Ceccon, who went wide at the exit of turn 2 and returned to the track somewhere after turn 3, having done a bit of off-roading on the grass.

What on earth was going on there with Cecotto and Bird!?

What the heck was that!? These drivers are just ridiculous! No wonder we get accidents like Spa last year with drivers like these! They should be banned from motorsports! Seriously, what is wrong with them!?

I wonder what happened between Canamasas and Berthon as well.

Yeah, why was there such animosity between those two!?

If anyone comes across a video of the incident on youtube, please post!

I mentioned during the session that we appear to be seeing a pattern when it comes to Venezuelan drivers and their attitude towards their competitors. There seems to be a mindset of entitlement and superiority, and that they can just do whatever they want.

It’s nice to see both Russian Time drivers in the top ten, even if Dillmann is a little further down the order than I had anticipated. It’s also good to see that Rio Haryanto has bounced back from his horrendous testing period, and a Lazarus in the top ten. Quaife-Hobbs, Abt and Palmer were all disappointing, while it’s no surprise to see Rosenzweig so far off the pace.

Hilmer are also looking a bit silly right now. It was a mistake to let Dillmann slip through their fingers …

Apologies for the double-post; for some reason, I can’t edit the above.

Yeah, why was there such animosity between those two!?

I don’t think there is any.

First bizarre stewards decision of the year:

And @sigman1998, here is the incident

They let Cecotto start the race after this??

I also don’t see how Bird should get a penalty from this footage.

  • Profile picture of Keith Collantine Keith Collantine said 2 months ago:

I don’t believe I’ve seen what Bird did so I’ll reserve judgement on that.

But a mere fastest lap deletion penalty for Cecotto is far too lenient.

How can the stewards expect GP2 driver to graduate into F1 with appropriate respect for the rules when they are not enforced properly at this level?

    This is a disgrace.

    Thanks @ryanwilliams!

What the hell is Cecotto thinking there!? I must say, it is in line with the stewards decisions on Maldonado at Spa 2011 (5 place grid penalty) and Monaco 2012 (10 place grid penalty), but that certainly doesn’t justify this very mild penalty.

I have no idea how the stewards found fault with Bird’s driving, if anything he was the one who stopped it turning into a crash by pulling off the circuit! Almost as ludicrous as when the GP3 stewards penalised Conor Daly after his massive shunt in Monaco!
