I would predict that Calado, Leimer, Ericsson, and other non-rookies like Cecotto Jr would be in the championship mix

I’m expecting Calado, Ericsson and Nasr to be at the forefront of the championship fight, with Abt, Evans, Cecotto and Leimer chasing them down. And maybe Dillmann – depending on whether he gets a seat and where that seat is – and Haryanto, even if his testing times were poor (he was considerably better than that last year).

I’m expecting Palmer ot Rosenzweig to get the wooden spoon.

@andae23 Well that is really something. If you add di Grassi, Buemi, and Yamamoto that makes it 15 ART drivers to have ever raced in F1…

Hopefully it won’t be an unlucky number 13 for Calado ;) although I do hope he makes it to number 16. Amazing also that the team has had so many great drivers progress to F1 from it. It must help to have such a pedigree of data left there to use!

Russian Time (who prefer to spell their name in block capitals) have replaced iSport on the grid for 2013:

GP2 Series organisers are pleased to announce that RUSSIAN TIME have been allocated an entry for the 2013 season. Currently based in Germany, the squad becomes the first Russian team to join the thirteen team field in replacement of iSport International.

RUSSIAN TIME will run their GP2/11 cars this week at Circuit de Catalunya where the final official pre-season testing of the Series takes place on March 05-06-07.

GP2 Series CEO Bruno Michel said: “I am pleased to welcome RUSSIAN TIME to the GP2 Series. I am certain that they will be a great addition to our field. Igor Mazepa has already put in place a team of staff with some great GP2 experience which will help them be able to be on pace very quickly.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank iSport International and Paul Jackson for eight great seasons in GP2 and wish them all the best for the future.”

RUSSIAN TIME Team Principal Igor Mazepa added: “We’re very happy to be joining the GP2 Series. It is one of the most prestigious categories in motorsport and we cannot wait to start running with the car this week in Barcelona. We know that it will be a challenge to be quickly on par with the other teams, but we have managed to put together a group of people whose experience in GP2 will be invaluable and we are pretty confident that we will do a good job from the get-go. We’re looking forward to this first season and hope to add many more to it!”

That’s … an unusual name. As first I thought “time” might have some alternative meaning in Russian, but if it does, I can’t find out what it might be.

Never heard of them before. Did a quick search with google: Team principal Igor Mazepa is apparently the CEO of Corcorde Capital, which is a Ukranian investment company. General Manager Timo Rumpfkeil is/was the team principal of Motopark, who helped Jimmy Eriksson to victory in last year’s German F3 championship.

This also mean we will have three new teams this year!

    Any ideas on drivers?

  • Profile picture of Prisoner Monkeys Prisoner Monkeys said 2 months, 3 weeks ago:

They only just announced that they were joining the series an hour ago.

    So, no.

Since I’ve got a very limited imagination: Aleshin and Martsenko?

With testing resuming tomorrow you’d hope they have at least one driver confirmed

What, no exclamation mark? With a bold name like that, I expect promo videos featuring putin wrestling a bear at the very least.

And why is a Ukrainean business man referring to his team as Russian?

Russian Time… is that supposed to be a pun? Quite apt (but not Abt) given their late entry if so.
