In all truthfulness, Binder did not deserve the move up to GP2, after 3 underperforming years at German F3. While German F3 champ Eriksson is in GP3 next year, runner-up(Auer), 4th(Gilbert) and 5th(Blomqvist) are in European F3, Binder is in GP2.

Binder was what Lazarus needed: a cashed-up driver who could sustain the team until the end of the season whilst they gained some much-needed experience. And while he’s still with the team, at least his sponsor dollars will be used to subsidise the second season, allowing Lazarus to take someone that they would otherwise be unable to afford.

As for Leal, wasn’t he beaten by teammate Richelmi last year?

Yes, he was, but that was mostly because Richelmi picked up a podium at Silverstone in the atrocious conditions. Otherwise, he would have beaten Leal by a single point.

Besides, Richelmi has moved to DAMS this year, whilst Leal is at Racing Engineering. Richelmi might be the better driver, but DAMS is easily the better team.

@girts How do you embed these tweets?

  • Profile picture of andae23 andae23 said 3 months, 2 weeks ago:

Ok, that was pretty noob, sorry for that… Still, it worked fine a few days ago o_O

@matthijs you just type the URL of a specific tweet (with http instead of https) and Wordpress does it automatically.

@matthijs That’s easy, just copy the URL (address) of the tweet (you can get it by clicking on the time of the tweet) and paste it here, just correct ‘https’ to ‘http’ before posting the reply, F1F will automatically embed the tweet then

It’s always nice to learn, thanks @andae23 and @girts

Calado’s morning time of 1:50.218 was the best anyone could manage today. Hopefully tomorrow’s forecast of better weather comes through or these guys are going to be heading out to Malaysia with a lot less representative track time than they’d have liked (the experience of wet running could be helpful there though, I suppose ^_~).

Frijns will test for Russian Time today (replacing Zanella), while Varhaug goes to Hilmer (replacing Daly).

On top of that: Rodolfo Gonzalez is ill and for some reason Berthon can’t test either, so Trident will not be running today. That’s a bit odd, isn’t it?

    Trident posted this on Twitter:

I’d say Berthon either has a sponsor problem, or has a personal situation that has prevented him from being able to attend.

Also, Dillmann and Frijns at Russian Time would be a phenomenal combination.

@andae23, I was wondering whether Frijns moved to Russian Time because Trident is not running, or whether Trident is not running because Frijns moved to another team. Appararently, they don’t want to let Berthon test for free (sets a bad precedent, or something)?

    @adrianmorse

whether Trident is not running because Frijns moved to another team

Testing line-ups are often arranged weeks or even months in advance of the actual test. So it’s not a case of Frijns deciding that he’d had enough of testing with Trident last night, and went over to Russian Time and asked if they had a spare seat.

I know Russian Time was announced as joining the grid just days before these tests began, but they probably would have sorted everything out – including their entry – well in advance. The organisers would have delayed the announcement to coincide with the tests so as to get a bit more media and public attention.

    Fantastic news:

And if they would sign Frijns too, that would be an awesome line-up!

Very pleased to know that Tom has a seat for this season. Very well-deserved after his performance in testing, and what he was able to show last year. Indeed Dillmann/ Frijns is a great line-up – one wonders why iSport couldn’t enter on the basis of lacking drivers with funding though since I assume RT aren’t asking much less than the €1.8 million per driver iSport quoted as being necessary.
