A couple of minutes ago Nathanael Berthon published a tweet which he immediately cancelled which might give away that he might be driving for someone this week. I managed to screen it (link), it’s a retweet which says:

RT @heyk: “will we see you in #GP2 ‘crash test’ next week? ;)” it looks like!!!

EDIT: He also tweeted this, apparently before that:

    Seems like a Trident seat..

Has Conor Daly secured a last minute GP2 drive?

    Now, this is unexpected!

Dillmann and Bird – not too bad for a new team!

Sam Bird, well I completely forgot about him!
I guess that means Frijns has to go for Trident then, which Berthon seems likely to go too.

Which would leave Daly at Hilmer, then?

Guess this means the end of Frijns’s chances of GP2. Trident look ready to sign Berthon, while Kevin Ceccon has also been seen snooping around in Sepang. Daly and Varhaug will be with Hilmer probably.

What’s a 26-year-old tried and tested driver still doing in single-seaters?
I assumed, with his Mercedes links he would get a DTM seat..
but then again I also assumed Juncadella would get the Rapax seat, but it went to Simon Trummer(sigh..) and now he’s in DTM..

Oh and Pal ‘Vikinghorn’ Varhaug has left for Malaysia as well…that’s it…end of the road for Frijns..

Brilliant news that Bird is getting another crack. I may be a bit biased but I thought he was one of the most exciting drivers in 2010.This died a bit in 2011 but he was still strong. He was also one of the unluckiest drivers in 2010 and I think he deserves a real shot. Whether he’ll get this at RUSSIAN TIME I have no idea, but I think they have a very strong line-up.

If this is indeed the end of the road for Frijns chances in GP2, that’s a real shame however.

I don’t think so. A poor GP2 season would do more damage to his career than a good GP2 season would help it.

@prisoner-monkeys Would a season out of competitive motorsport(and no impending chance of ‘doing a Bottas’) help or hinder him?

  • Profile picture of Ryan Williams Ryan Williams said 2 months ago:

Don’t forget he is Sauber’s third driver, and so we could see him running in a few practice sessions this year

  • Profile picture of andae23 andae23 said 2 months ago:

Yeah, maybe Sauber is going to do a ‘Bottas’ this year with Frijns

Bird and Dillmann? Wow that’s quite a line-up!
