Marinescu is an intersting choice for Rapax.

@Jailed-Chimpanzees He’s there because he’s paid the money they asked. I doubt they’ve gone with him on the basis of a fifth place finish in F2. Every driver in the Abu Dhabi field is extremely well funded.

Ugh. This does little to up the enthusiasm for Abu Dhabi. Prove me wrong boys, prove me wrong.

Arden have confirmed their 2011 driver Josef Kral and their GP3 driver Simon Trummer for Abu Dhabi, leaving Super Nova as the last team to confirm their drivers.

  • Profile picture of Joel Holland Joel Holland said 1 year, 7 months ago:

If Super Nova want to win and get a bit of sponsor attention heading in to the off-season they should put Luca Fillipi in the car. More likely we’ll see a pair of iffy youngsters with bags of cash (where’s Varhaug in all of this) but it’s a nice thought.

Another thought: between this and the F1 test, Leimer and Clos must be forking out north of half a million Euros for a few days of driving.

  • Profile picture of Joel Holland Joel Holland said 1 year, 7 months ago:

Apparently the Super Nova seats have gone to Giacomo Ricci and Fabio Onidi. Always liked Giacomo, kind of cool that he’s back after getting booted by DPR after winning his first race. It’s not like he’ll be on the grid in 2012 but hey, let the man race. Don’t know much about Onidi. Being as he’s Italian I assume he’s done Auto GP…

I think these are the drivers I’ll be most interested to see:

    - Mihai Marinescu
    - Rio Haryanto
    - Nathanael Berthon

They’ve all experienced some degree of success (but not a championship) in Formula Two, GP3 and Formula Renault 3.5 respectively.

Well, good job from Leimer and Clos – who ironically have swapped cars for the weekend – but you’d expect it with their experience. Thought Ceccon did well to be P7, ahead of Gutierrez, and my hat goes off to Dillmann as top rookie. Sometimes jumping in a bigger car just works. Decent job from Calado too in P12.

Still, for Jan Charouz to be P24 is pretty appalling for a guy of his experience. Tragic that he’ll be testing the Renault F1 car on Monday.

Experience rules though. Glenn Freeman was saying that those GP2 tyres are very difficult to get working properly so guys just jumping in were always going to have a tough time.

Fabio Leimer wins the feature race, with Luiz Razia second. Jolyon Palmer third. James Calado will start the sprint race from pole.

  • Profile picture of Fixy Fixy said 1 year, 7 months ago:

James Calado won the Sprint race ahead of Marcus Ericsson and Tom Dillmann.
Leimer “won” the drivers’ championship, and iSport the teams’ championship.
Calado and Dillmann are the two best GP3 graduates, tied with 7 points each, although having Calado won a race, he should be ahead in the standings.
