I’ll admit, I’m not the best at following the junior formulae. but I thought I’d make this thread as it would be a good thread for others to evaluate the talent in the junior series such as GP2, FR3.5, and so on. Explanations aren’t necessary, but justifying your choices can help enlighten those who don’t follow these series as much.

I’m sorry, but simply looking at the race results sheets are not a fair indicating of his performance in GP2. He was very unlucky, but all things considering, he very much showed why he deserves a seat in Formula One.1st August 2013, 2:13 at 2:13 am #239682wsrgoParticipantBest GP2 Driver – Stefano Coletti

He only did the Monza round. You’re voting him the best driver on the basis of one round? He wasn’t the highest scoring driver in that round too, Marciello was. And going by Rosenqvist’s performances recently, I’d say Mucke aren’t too far away from Prema this year, so Marciello and Wehrlein had comparable machinery at Monza.

Best Overall F1 Prospect – Felipe Nasr1st August 2013, 21:00 at 9:00 pm #239691Iestyn DaviesParticipantGot to say I pretty much agree with wsrgo! I think Calado really has a shot with backing from Nicolas Todt. Nasr should definitely be in F1 in the next few years, he has Brazilian sponsors too, but I imagine will only graduate to F1 when Massa leaves. Don’t know if he has contact with any F1 teams. I think Evans should have a shot after another few years, possibly next year if he has a championship shot. If Nasr wins the GP2 championship he could be in a sticky situation!
Marciello looks great, as does Kirchhofer (interesting to see how he’d do in Euro F3). Wehrlein I hope won’t waste awat in DTM – it looks like Vietoris, Wickens and now Juncadella are starting to gain traction there.
1st August 2013, 21:59 at 9:59 pm #239692specialk69ParticipantBest GP2 Driver – Felipe Nasr. I would have put Colletti here instead but for the last few rounds he has been woeful and crash strewn.
Best GP3 Driver – Tio Ellinas. Consistancy has been the key due to the high amount of individual winners in this series and Ellinas has done well.
Best FR3.5 Driver – Kevin Magnussen. He’s stepped up to a whole new level this year and has had the rub of the green more compared to last year.
Best Formula 3 Driver (any F3 series) – Only watch Euro F3 and F3 open. So I’m stuck between Raffielle Maricello, Felix Rosenqvist and Sandy Stuvik.
Best Young Driver in another series (DTM, AutoGP, etc.) – Don’t watch much DTM or AutoGP. But I do watch a bit of NASCAR and for a 20 year old Kyle Larson has impressed me in the Nationwide class.
Best Driver In A New Series (i.e. drivers moving up from GP3 to GP2) – Stoffel Vandoorne’s move from FR2.0 has been mighty impressive.
Most Overrated Driver – Not fair to judge for this one.
Most Disappointing Driver – Daniel Abt’s move from GP3 to GP2 has been largely anonymous and for good reason.
Most Overlooked Driver – Robin Frijns. I say this because he has a mega amount of talent yet he can’t find the budget for love nor money, sadly.
Most Improved Driver – Will Stevens. He’s really benefitting from a 2nd year in FR 3.5
Best Overall F1 Prospect – Felipe Nasr. He’s quick, consistant and has the backing of some major Brazilian companies. He just needs a reseve/test link up with a team now…2nd August 2013, 2:15 at 2:15 am #239693Prisoner MonkeysParticipantWith regards to Abt, his team as a whole have been struggling in GP2. James Calado was widely expected to be a title contender this year, and it hasn’t happened.
Furthermore, GP2 is now very much a two-year campaign for young drivers. The very best will graduate after one season, of course, but you can take two years and still be highly-rated. It’s when you do a Johnny Cecotto Jr. and race for four teams in four years that you have a serious problem.
