Well, what a surprise in the first GP2 race of the weekend. Johnn Cecotto Jnr – who had a total of two points heading into this weekend – won from pole position, soaking up pressure from Marcus Ericsson all the way.

Championship leader Davide Valsecchi was fourth behind Giedo van der Garde. He increased his point lead as Luiz Razia failed to score, seemingly caught up in an incident between Esteban Gutierrez and the lapped Fabrizio Crestani.

Gutierrez threw away eighth place and pole position for tomorrow’s sprint race when he clouted the barrier as he tried to lap the GP Lazarus driver.

That promoted his team mate James Calado to seventh having started 13th. Monegasque driver Stephane Richelmi will start on pole position in the sprint race after finishing eighth.

Well at least the GP2 race was a bit more exciting that the following GP3 race, which had literally zero overtakes.
