I’m sorry, but driving standards this poor would be dangerous on Abu Dhabi or Paul Ricard.

Why keep going at full speed, weaving like a basket, while being without a rear wing?

@Prisoner-Monkeys Maybe he felt he was being blocked and wanted to get by. Or maybe Perez cut him off. We don’t actually know.

That’s still not proof that he did it intentionally.

In fairness to Suranovich, the weaving might not have been intentional. With that lack of rear downforce you have to use less steering angle so he was wide coming out of the corner rather than deliberately blocking, then he had to brake early obviously which Daly wasn’t expecting.

I’m not sure whether he was obliged by the rules to let cars past, I cant think of one myself (black and orange just means come into the pits I believe?).

The weaving didn’t appear deliberate. It wasn’t even that strong, it’s just that any weaving, even slight, can confuse the driver behind. He moved right coming out of the tunnel. He then didn’t move left that much I don’t think- it looked to me like he maintained a similar distance between himself and the wall, perhaps moving slightly left due to him having straightened out while the track itself was still turning. He should have been more careful though, especially considering the lack of a rear wing.

Lengthy interview with Daly on the crash on Will Buxton’s blog:

Of course we’ve all seen what happened next. I don’t mind blocking but when you’re driving reacting to the driver in your rear view mirrors, making desperate efforts putting other drivers in danger, that’s not right.

It’s not really any worse than what Senna did to Schumacher in Spain is it?

  • Profile picture of Magnificent Geoffrey Magnificent Geoffrey said 11 months, 3 weeks ago:

@asanator Except this was not Daly’s fault while in Spain, it was Schumacher’s fault and he was rightly penalised for it.

  • Profile picture of Asanator Asanator said 11 months, 3 weeks ago:

@Magnificent Geoffrey well both ‘defending’ drivers were moving about in the braking zone which is the dangerous bit, what’s good for one is good for all surely!

rear tires are exploding when they hit he fence.

just watch the video and look at rear tires.

Will Buxton’s really off on one on Twitter now, because Daly has been given a grid penalty…

    From the GP3 site:
Stewards penalised the American after he “collided with the rear of another competitor and removed the rear wing. After colliding again with the rear of the same competitor, the race was red flagged.”

Sounds like the penalty is for the previous collision which I haven’t seen, but it’s a dangerous game encouraging defending drivers that they’ll get away with weaving – what next, a penalty for Anthony Davidson, for his crash at Le Mans, when he returns to racing?!

It is. Daly hit Suranovich, which removed Suranovich’s rear wing. Daly crashed into Suranovich again because Suranovich had no rear wing. If Daly had not crashed into Suranvoich the first time, the second accident never would have happened. So Daly is being penalised for causing an avoidable accident, which directly led to a second avoidable accident.

I’ve not seen the initial contact he’s been punished for so can’t comment on that – however one has to wonder how it’s taken them four weeks to decide this.
