Timing and Scoring is getting me excited. I’m going to Pole day Saturday. We’ll see how fast those Lotus actually are….

Word is, Dragon will have Chevys for the race as well. One engine already in the garage and another on the way. Bourdais and Legge will be out there.

That is great news Mike. Seb should be really quick with Chevy power, but they will be way down on practice time. http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-dragon-to-run-thursday-with-chevy-power/

    Practice live at http://racecontrol.indycar.com/

The cars sound wicked with the extra boost pressure.

Marco just ran a lap a tick under 226.

Just got home from “Fast Friday” and wow Marco Andretti was flying. 227.540! I also got Rubens autograph and shook his hand! There were some pretty big fellow f1 fans who made him a sign that said Rubens and hung it on the pit fence. He loved it and came over to get pictures with them. It was pretty cool! Can’t wait for the race next weekend!

Impressive details of ESPN/ABC’s coverage plans for the race:

ESPN’s production will utilize more than 80 cameras to televise the premier event of the IZOD IndyCar Series, including four onboard cameras per car in at least nine of the 33 cars competing in the race. ESPN will make use of dual-path technology for the first time in an IndyCar Series telecast, permitting views from two onboard cameras on the same car at the same time.

Also for the first time, viewers of the ABC telecast will be able to enhance their experience with a choice of live streaming video from the onboard cameras on ESPN3, ESPN’s multi-screen live sports network. ESPN3 will carry the feeds exclusively through WatchESPN and on Indycar.com to fans who receive their Internet or video subscription from an affiliated provider. Viewers will be able to choose which driver’s onboard cameras they want to watch from among the available cars. ESPN3 also will have replays of the ABC telecast following the event. ESPN3 is available online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and through ESPN on Xbox LIVE to Gold level members.

ESPN will continue its Indianapolis use of “Batcam,” a camera that provides unique views running on a cable over pit road and the frontstretch and can move at more than 80 mph. Views and replays will be enhanced by the first Indianapolis 500 use of Ultra Hi Motion cameras located in the short chutes at each end of the 2.5-mile track as well as at the fourth turn exit.

Hopefully they step it up… The opener at St. Pete was horribly covered.

The local broadcaster in Sao Paulo did a pretty shoddy job too, but the other two races were good as I recall.

Are they ever going to put any catch fencing up on the divider separating the S/F straight from the pit lane? They have all sorts of officials and photographers standing there with nothing but a 1 metre (or something) high wall protecting them from a horrible situation if a car gets airborne in an accident and it really makes me nervous each year.

The coverage for Indy should be fantastic. Some very interesting pre-race pieces are scheduled also. Previous race coverage has been very good except for the local feed from Brazil.

How about $3 million to win the race! $7 million in total prize money. http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/indycar-series-announces-additional-25k-fine-for-kv-racing/

Dallara is modifying the chassis prior to Carb Day on May 25 after crash analysis during practice and qualifying. Interesting http://www.indycar.com/News/2012/05-May/5-23-Notes-Dallara-modifies-chassis-in-name-of-safety

Is anyone else considering going? At $30 for infield tickets I’m seriously thinking of a list minute trip.

    from the above dallara link:

Chevrolet’s first IZOD IndyCar Series engine since 2005 was built through a collaborative effort, uniting Chevrolet and General Motor’s experience in E85 fuel and direct injection with Ilmor Engineering’s race engine design expertise.

does that mean the chevy motor is actually mercedes hpe?

  • Profile picture of Don Don said 12 months ago:

Joey – I’d love to go, and Indy is definitely on my bucket list. Can’t make it this year.
Mercedes has no affiliation with Ilmor Engineering, other than when they were in CART years ago and used their services just as Chevrolet is currently. Both just won the Louis Schwitzer Award. http://www.motorsport.com/indycar/news/chevrolet-and-ilmor-engineers-honored-with-louis-schwitzer-award/

    @Don

I’d read that Dallara were making changes to the wing supports to help prevent air getting under the car – but I can’t help but think it’s more to do with those short sidepods and floor extensions next to the sidepod air intakes they have this year. It seems like they’re allowing the impact energy to exacerbate the pivoting around the lowest point on the side of the car. I think Indycar has been lucky so far that we haven’t seen a direct side-on smack into the wall – that has me a little concerned.

I’d love to go, but I think I’m going to give the new cars a year or two and then take my old man. I’ve got my Milwaukee tickets though :D
