With more and more speculation about China not happening, there has been speculation of what the backup plan for the China race may be. Road America! A tandem event with ALMS.

@Mikemat5150 Much as I’d like to see IndyCar back at Road America/Elkhart Lake, and as much as I have doubts about Qingdao, I’d rather they got to cash the cheque they were promised according to that article.

Of course if they could take the payment without a race (as F1 did with Bahrain last year) and still go to Road America, I’d be just as happy!

Curt Cavin thinks it’s going to be Road America:

I’m 80 percent sure it’s going to be Road America. I’d be more sure if I knew what expectations Randy Bernard has for a sanctioning fee.

The last major single-seater race at Road America was Champ Car’s 2007 visit, emphatically won by Sebastien Bourdais. The year before that Katherine Legge – now his team mate at Dragon – survived this terrifying crash:

But it’s a terrific track – here’s an onboard lap with Bruno Junqueira from 2007:

Oh lets hope this happens. Road America is a brilliant track. One of my favourite to drive on various racing games. It’s as long as Spa and easily as fast, if not faster.

The layout doesn’t seem all that inspiring from an overhead, but I concur with AJ, it’s incredible to drive! The great thing is it tends to promote very good racing, too. Plenty of passing opportunities and some wonderful elevation change. Plus, the lead up to Canada Corner is a gorgeous blast through the woods with trees on both sides.
