I would say it is for someone of Montoya’s reputation and calibre.

Huertas’ car seemed to be experiencing mechanical problems (not that he’s likely to be fast with almost zero testing).

Speaking of Huertas, he got a lot closer to the field in the second session, 0.5s off the next car.

Nice powerslide there from Montoya. He ended his day in a tyre wall though :p

I think it’ll take a while for Montoya to get back into it. Allmendinger struggled to re-adapt after a long absence in open-wheelers, I wouldn’t be surprised if JP spends the first few races mid-pack – although I’d love to be wrong.

I’m also not fond of the track – it’s too short, tight and overtaking opportunities are sparse. I don’t wish to see St. Pete off the calendar, but I’d rather see the season kick off with a track that’s capable of supplying fireworks instead of Party Poppers.

Is anyone going to St. Pete for the race tomorrow? If anyone is Florida, I’ve heard it’s worth going. I haven’t seen the Stadium Trucks yet, but I’ve heard they are awesome and I’m going a little early just to catch them race, as well as the Indy Lights (which also look fantastic this year).

MatK77 – there’s a good chance the opener could be in Brazil next year. Or even an oval if a deal can be worked out with Phoenix\ISC.

Qualifying delayed. Tornado warning turned out to be correct.

The circuit being washed out jumbled the qualifying a fair bit. Some fast guys (eg Wilson) are starting near the back, should be an interesting race.

Jack Hawksworth and I were in the same kart team back in 2009, his progress has been rapid!
