Looking forward to this year’s Indy500 (‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’ as its billed). The practice sessions are up and running..Some interesting names in the starting line-up as well (http://digbza2f4g9qo.cloudfront.net/~/media//Files/2013/IZOD-IndyCar-Series/05-IND/indycar-entrylist?vs=1&d=20130514T115023)..

33 car entry list for the second year in a row? That’s 75% of the drama in Indy 500 qualifying gone since no one stands to be bumped from the field.

There may be a car or two rolled out for bump day. Looks like the 99 may get some action come the weekend.

Conor Daly no longer need Russian teenagers to launch himself into the air. Instead, he’s figured out how to do it all by himself:

    Good to see Conor back tweeting that he was ok, if confused what happened;
“Pretty devastated. Never once felt uncomfortable in this car. Rear felt like it just collapsed all of a sudden. Can’t believe it…”

And that ice cream solves everything.

Will has always been strong on Ovals, he just wasn’t an oval specialist. Still, I don’t think he’s gonna take pole, not with the Andretti guys looking so good all month.

Ed Carpenter is on pole position for the Indianapolis 500 but the real winners are Chevrolet who locked out the top ten places on the grid.

In a major upset, Carlos Munoz will start second on the grid for his first ever IndyCar start. He’s also driving in the Indy Lights race! Andretti team mate Marco Andretti lines up alongside him.

EJ Viso makes it three Andretti cars in a row and is joined by Penske’s AJ Allmendinger and Will Power on row two.

Reigning champion Ryan Hunter-Reay is seventh alongside Helio Castroneves and James Hinchcliffe.

Alex Tagliani is the highest Honda-powered starter in 11th. Last year’s winner Dario Franchitti is 17th ahead of current points leader Takuma Sato.

The last nine places are yet to be set – Bump Day will see one of the remaining ten drivers eliminated before race day.

*claim to fame* Carlos went to my school. Really nice guy, but was only really interested in racing. Amazing to see him come so far.

My place has also spurned Russian racer Ivan Taranov, who is in Formula Renault UK and Alps this season. Racing heritage is growing!

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable fellow to me.

I wonder how he’d go in Formula 1. I’ve long been convinced that the key to successfully making the jump between Indycar and Formula 1 is to make the transition early.

@prisoner-monkeys I’ve seen Carlos Munoz in junior formulae and I can confidently say he has been very average.

I don’t care who wins, as long as it’s not Franchitti.

I don’t care who wins, as long as it’s not Franchitti.

If he doesn’t get involved in something on track / has technical issues of some sort, there’s virtually no chance Franchitti won’t end up in the top 5. Same goes for Dixon. Almost identical grid positions for both of them as last year, as well.

However, if I were to name someone besides the usual suspects (Franchitti, Dixon, Castroneves), I’d say Carpenter has a good chance here (he’s not the class of the field but when he catches a good weekend once in a while, he can pull off some surprise moves, especially on the ovals – Fontana 2012 is just an example) or one of the Andretti cars, be it Marco, Hunter-Reay or (why not?!) Munoz (they’ve showed very good speed so far).

The real surprise however would be Will Power…
