It’s unclear whether the proposed venue is the permanent road course or a street circuit. The suggested date would make it the season opener next year.

The Associated Press is now reporting that a deal has been signed:

Brazilian officials have announced the return of IndyCar to the country next season, saying Friday that a race will be held in the capital of Brasilia.

The federal district government released a statement saying the Autodromo Nelson Piquet will host the race from 2015-19. The deal with local race promoters was signed at an event in Sao Paulo.

This is the track which was supposed to be holding a Moto GP race this year but isn’t. Maybe we shouldn’t get our hopes up.

Interesting track though – in fact it’s got a near-oval configuration which would be cool. What is curious is that although the various reports say the track configuration is anti-clockwise, as does the diagram on Wikipedia, the footage I saw from last year’s Stock Car race appears to show the cars lapping clockwise, as other track maps also do:

Can anyone with a better knowledge of Brazilian motor racing shed any light?

I did place a question mark in the title ;-) it depends on improvements being made to the circuit itself, for one thing.

Good. I really hope they bring back Laguna Seca, Road America and Watkins Glen now….

Good. I really hope they bring back Laguna Seca, Road America and Watkins Glen now….

Laguna Seca would be saturating the California market and it’s not much better for passing than Sonoma.

Road America is a possibility, the financials need to make sense for both sides though.

Watkins Glen was a staple from 2005-2010 but attendance started to drop off, and there’s the ISC ownership…
