F1 Fanatic - IndyCar
There’s growing speculation over whether Michigan International Speedway could return to the IndyCar calendar in the near future.
The superspeedway is owned by International Speedway Corporation (with its very close NASCAR connections) and was resurfaced this year. It last hosted a round of the series in 2007:
I love to see IndyCars racing on the big ovals and am looking forward to the return to Fontana later this year. There were rumours earlier in the year about a race at Pocono as well.
One potential deciding factor in whether Michigan joins the calendar could be a desire to avoid putting it in competition with the street race in Detroit which was revived this year and attracted backing from Chevrolet.
Adding either to the calendar could recreate the triple crown of 500-mile races, along with Fontana and of course the Indianapolis 500.
This is all assuming the problem of pack racing can be controlled. No-one who saw the last race there will forget what happened to Dario Franchitti:
