I for my part refuse to get excited unless I know Barrichello’s times have been competitive. If he were to drive at the back of the field, he might as well go to HRT.

@Klon Tony Kanaan has already said that Rubens was setting times as quick as his own after 20 laps and Kanaan isn’t exactly a slow driver.

The curbs, the bumps, the change in direction… and that’s not even on the full circuit. The way be controlled that beast (and it is a beast, especially in bare carbon fibre) over the undulating surface.

Go on Rubens, lets see how you fare stateside! It’s a done deal now though, surely? Where else has he got to go and what has he got to lose?

I don’t think it’s indicative of anything, really. Barrichello test the car when Kanaan invited him to. I think you’ll find Barrichello was just having a bit of fun and pushed hard to get a feel for the car so that he would know how the car behaved if he wanted to join the series.

So he’s clearly considering it, and he’s obviously open to a full schedule. Good stuff.

You have to imagine there’s a good chance. All he needs is a sponsor for that car, because KV won’t run it for free. He’s headed back to Brazil, I’m sure that if any driver can raise the funding over there it’s him, especially with the prospect of a Brazilian round early in the season and quite possibly two in ’13.

Last update I saw was Brazillian media said 85% he does Road/ Streets plus the 500 and doesn’t do ovals per the promise to his wife.

It seems that money has already been found and it’s basically just Rubens’ decision.

Jourdain?! Now there’s a blast from the (open-wheel) past. As for the F1 driver, it has to be Liuzzi, right? Can’t see Sutil jacking F1 in just yet, and Petrov is surely going to find his way back in for 2013. Liuzzi meanwhile was in the last chance saloon with HRT – there’s no coming back from that, so why not give IndyCar a go.
