That’s definitely one of the better ones.

Oh man, definitely harks back to the Domino’s paint jobs of the late 80′s/early 90′s.

I was actually at the detroit auto show this last weekend (need to remember to upload those pics!) and they had one of Franchitti’s old Target Ganassi cars and one of the new Indy Cars on show. It was a bit sad looking at the old one and thinking they’ll never look like that again :C

@joey-poey So it does! I’ve been watching some ’88/’89 IndyCar recently, I should have spotted that myself.

Lotus aren’t supplying a chassis. It’s a Dallara spec chassis powered by a Lotus engine and sponsored by the company. Everyone is running the Dallara chassis this year – I believe manufacturers will be producing individual aero kits from 2013.

Varied aero kits in 2013. And, according to Randy Bernard, a fourth engine supplier is in advanced discussions for 2014.

In terms of the new cars, that ‘thing’ over the rear wheels is awful, but if it saves lives then who are we to complain?

I can’t wait to see these in action. I think they look brilliant, I love the shape.

Looks good in plain carbon fibre (but then what racing car doesn’t!)

@jholland I understand the safety concern, but that’s what the bit *behind* the rear tire is for. The bit in front of the rear tire is because of aero and not safety (at least, I can’t see how it would be due to safety). I’m fine with the rear “mini-fenders” it’s that raised sidepod bit that bugs me.

@Joey-Poey Okay, cool. I actually don’t mind the bit behind the rear wheel. The bit in front is some ugly, ugly aero.

    I totally agree

The huge rear wing would be perfect for DRS! It would give some boost when a wing plane as big as the Indy Car’s opened up!

I quite like it from the front, looks fantastic, especially in the naked carbon fiber of the Lotus livery. Side profile is a bit ungainly due to the humps in front of the rear wheels, but with the individual bodykits coming next year, I am sure we will see more elegant solutions.

It’s nice to see an open wheel series going in a new design direction, F1 is following the regs down and an ugly alley, (see the new caterham) and every other series just tires to look like a simplified F1.
