The back end, “kardashians” as they are being referred to now, is mainly to prevent cars from launching over the back of each other on Ovals. To save money Dallara put them on all the kits and I’m sure they have some aero component as well. Ugly but if they save one driver from something like Vegas they’re worth it in my opinion.

Not my cup of tea but it’s always nice to see a livery that’s so different from all others!

Crikey! Nice. If you’re going to have a livery that audacious how can you not like it? :D

:O I love it in that weird ‘I wanna shoot it with an RPG’ kinda way. Its so shockingly different that its hard not to love it! Can’t wait to see that thing going around St. Pete soon! I guess they said, ‘Eh, its a weird looking car, lets give it a weird looking paint job’. Its the kind of thing that F1 is missing, the fun factor so to speak. Every team on the grid in F1 trys their best to look professional, and Indy has several teams that complete defy that mentality. Thats why I love this series!

A livery that threatens to blind you from thiry paces?

    That’s just plain irresponsible.

It’s hard to make this car look good (Sato’s current effort is particularly woeful) but at least TK has gone for his helmet colours. It’s important for cars to build recognition and a stable, easily identifiable livery is a good way to do that. The series needs casual viewers who tune in now and again to pick favourites so that they’ll become regular fans, and though a bit simplistic (particularly to hardcore fans, as I’d say we, people who talk about IndyCar in a forum are) it works. Hopefully this’ll happen with TK’s livery. They need to get away from multiple liveries as that’s no good for continuity.

Just noticed Kimball’s livery and that’s pretty striking too – not that I expect him to be dabbling Tony at the front this year ;).

Onboard with JR Hildebrand at Phoenix:

Looks like the onboard camera mountings need a bit of work to cope with the engine vibrations! Engine sounds good though.

Would be good to see them race at Phoenix again one day, though it looks like Hildebrand wasn’t running quite as quick as the car may be capable of here.

Will the 2014 F1 engines sound a bit similar to these?

  • Profile picture of matt90 matt90 said 1 year, 2 months ago:

I doubt it. Their rev limit is 3000 rpm higher, so hopefully they should sound quite a pit more furious (hopefully). I just hope F1 engine are restricted less. It’s expensive, but stock engines don’t excite me as much as ones being developed and pushed to their limits.
