Regarding catch fences: if it can be made safer then they should. But on the other hand: those cars were travelling at 200+ kph and some were standing just metres away. Those people know/knew that motorsport is dangerous, especially oval racing. So don’t get me wrong, it’s horrible that people were injured, but at some point there is a line between what can be done to make motorsport safer and the risk that drivers and spectators take.

I send my prayers to these fans and their families, we should be thankful there were no fatalities and hope that none injured succumb to their wounds.

The only way to prevent this is to move the stands much further back and or just get rid of those lower 20 or 30 rows.

Well, i wonder if its something to with the whole ‘Motorsport is dangerous’ slogan/sign maybe on the tickets that if you enter the oval you acknowledge the dangers and that invalidates any way of getting compensation

To be honest, you shouldnt really be looking at compensation. Sure its not nice to think that you might be seriously injured, but at the end of the day we all know that it is a risk we take (albeit a slim one, about as rare as a rollercoaster or a plane crashing) when we go to see motorsport. I am happy with this risk when I go and see an event. I am sure though that I have heard in cases of this nature, there is usually some unofficial help offered by people such as the drivers and the track to the victims of such large scale, high profile tragedies which they dont really have to do by law.
